At Microsoft Research, you will shape the future of software by advancing how complex systems are designed, built, and validated. You will work alongside world-class researchers and engineers to push the state of the art in software engineering through rigorous, impactful research.
In this role as a Senior Researcher - Research in Software Engineering - Microsoft Research, you play a critical part in turning foundational ideas into practical advances in software engineering by advancing programming languages, testing, and automated reasoning. You will deepen your expertise in formal methods, large-scale systems, and the integration of AI and agent technologies, while collaborating primarily on-site in Redmond with opportunities for growth and learning across disciplines.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in relevant field
    • OR Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3+ years related research experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 4+ years related research experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years of experience building large scale systems integrating rigorous methods and AI technologies for software engineering.
  • Active participation in engineering efforts in the above areas, with involvement in building and maintaining systems.
  • Active participation in research as demonstrated by publications.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
