A Research Development Intern supports research projects by assisting with tasks such as literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, and preparing reports or presentations. They often work under the supervision of senior researchers and may help develop research proposals, organize project materials, and contribute to ongoing studies. This role is designed to give interns hands-on experience in the research process and to develop their analytical and organizational skills. The specific duties can vary depending on the field and the organization's focus.

What types of projects does a research development intern work on, and how is mentorship typically provided?

As a Research Development Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of projects ranging from literature reviews and data analysis to assisting with grant proposals and contributing to experimental design. Typically, you'll work closely with senior researchers or project leads who provide regular guidance and feedback through one-on-one meetings and collaborative team sessions. Job description

Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Strategic Growth Research Operations Intern who will support ongoing research and execute research tasks for our early-stage strategic bets-from recommending research design through participant recruitment to analysis-while continuously seeking ways to automate and optimize how we work. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader - we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do:

As a Strategic Growth Research Operations Intern, your key area of responsibility will be supporting ongoing Lean Startup / Customer Development research for early-stage strategic bets, executing research tasks across the lifecycle with an experimentation and outcomes-orientation. This includes: contributing to research design recommendations that shape how studies are run; identifying and coordinating efficient pathways to target participants (external recruitment tools, surveys, in-app options, among others); managing interview coordination and follow-up to convert outreach into completed research sessions; supporting logistics-intensive hands-on pilots with external customers and internal employees; and conducting desk research and analysis to inform discovery efforts. Throughout, you will continuously look for ways to automate and optimize the work, applying generative AI where it can make research operations faster and better. You will work closely with the Product Research Operations team, contributing to shared capacity while developing processes tailored to the distinct challenges of strategic research where target customers may be harder to reach or don't yet exist.

To be successful in this role you must have: strong organizational and follow-through skills to manage multiple recruitment touchpoints simultaneously; comfort with ambiguity and experimentation as you test different approaches; curiosity about AI tools and how they can augment research workflows; and clear written communication to document processes and coordinate with stakeholders.

The opportunity:
  • 4 month work-term beginning January 2027.
  • Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday,ย 37.5hrs/week.
  • Your first week at Geotab begins with 'GEO Launch' - a one-week Employee Orientation. Clickย hereย to learn more!

  • This posting is for an existing vacancy.
How you'll make an impact:
  • Research Recruitment Optimization: By trialing and evaluating different research recruitment methods-which may include external recruiting tools, survey platforms, and in-app options-this role will identify the most effective pathways to reach target interview volumes while measuring time and cost efficiency.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
  • Interview Coordination & Follow-up: Managing the end-to-end recruitment workflow from initial outreach to scheduled session, including responding to participant replies, coordinating calendars, and ensuring follow-through. As throughout the role, you will continuously look for ways to automate and streamline these manual touchpoints.
  • Pilot Program Logistics: Supporting the execution of hands-on pilots with external customers and internal employees by coordinating schedules, communications, materials preparation, and participant tracking-ensuring smooth delivery of logistics-intensive research initiatives.
  • Desk Research & Discovery Support: Conducting foundational desk research to accelerate strategic discovery efforts, gathering market intelligence, competitive context, and background information that informs early-stage product bets.
  • Research Design & Analysis Support: Contributing to research design recommendations and supporting analysis of research findings-helping translate sessions and desk research into insights that inform early-stage product bets.
  • Process & Tooling Documentation: Creating replicable templates, workflows, and documented processes tailored to the unique challenges of early-stage and strategic bet research-where customers may be harder to reach or don't yet exist-enabling scalable research practices distinct from incremental innovation research, while continuously applying generative AI and automation to make these workflows faster and more efficient.
What you'll bring to the role:
  • Ongoing studies in Business and/or Marketing, or a related discipline; a major or minor in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is a highly valued asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple recruitment touchpoints and follow through on participant coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and coordinate research project schedules, including planning and tracking timelines for higher-complexity initiatives with several moving parts.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation-you're energized by testing different approaches and iterating based on results.
  • Excellent written communication skills for outreach, documentation, and stakeholder updates.
  • Curiosity about AI tools and how they can augment workflows; prior experience with generative AI models and tools (Claude, Gemini, OpenCode) is an asset.
  • Attention to detail when tracking recruitment metrics, coordinating logistics, and documenting processes.
  • A proactive, self-directed approach-you take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
  • Interest in Lean Startup, customer research, product strategy, and/or innovation; prior exposure to user research methods is an asset but not required.
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
