Consumer Insights Research Associate Job Description

Wage: DOE

Shift: Part-time or full-time. Primarily Monday-Friday during office hours. Periodic availability for Saturdays, evenings, holidays, and peak attendance periods may be required.

Summary: The Consumer Insights Research Associate uses quantitative and qualitative data to help Thanksgiving Point better understand its guests, improve experiences, demonstrate impact, and inform strategic decisions. Working across programs, events, and venues, the Associate collects and analyzes data on guest behaviors, needs, preferences, and experiences and translates findings into actionable insights. The position also supports research and evaluation efforts that advance Thanksgiving Point’s nonprofit mission and demonstrate its educational and community impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, manage, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data related to guest motivations, preferences, behaviors, attendance, programs, exhibits, events, and organizational impact.
  • Design and conduct surveys, observational studies, interviews, focus groups, and other consumer research using Qualtrics and related tools.
  • Use data analytics to identify consumer trends, audience segments, patterns, and opportunities that inform guest experience, strategic, and operational decisions.
  • Support applied research and evaluation projects, including longitudinal and quasi-experimental studies measuring educational and community impact and changes in guest behaviors over time.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, visualizations, and presentations that translate research findings into clear, actionable insights for organizational stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with departments across Thanksgiving Point to identify research questions, understand audiences, and apply insights to organizational decision-making.
  • Support grant applications and reports, research proposals, IRB applications, conference presentations, publications, and other research communications.
  • Maintain organized research files and datasets while ensuring data quality and confidentiality.
  • Exemplify Thanksgiving Point’s Mission, Values, and Policies and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or current enrollment with anticipated completion) in Social Sciences, Psychology, Education, Evaluation, Consumer Behavior, Business Analytics, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite; experience with statistical software (R, SPSS, Python, or similar), survey platforms such as Qualtrics, and data visualization tools is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to understand consumer behavior, identify patterns, solve problems, and translate data into insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate research findings clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and produce accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Interest in consumer insights, audience research, guest experience, education, museums, nonprofits, and/or program evaluation.
  • Physical requirements include: sitting and standing for long periods; bending, twisting, climbing stairs; lifting 20lbs; manipulating small objects.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
