Your specific duties and responsibilities differ depending on the field in which you work, but some features of your work are similar across industries. You typically do primary and secondary source research, organize and process data, analyze said data, and report on your findings to lead researchers or clinicians.

Be a part of something extraordinary! Explore how you can advance your career and make a professional and personal impact at the Ontario Veterinary College. Come and join our team of world-class veterinary specialists and scholars at Canada's top-ranked and the 6th globally ranked, Ontario Veterinary College. The Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph invites applications for a full-time 12-month contractually limited position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Applicants interested in a fractional appointment will be considered. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.Â
Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent) and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario. The applicant must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Analgesia. Applications may also be considered from candidates who have completed an ACVAA/ECVAA-approved residency training program and are eligible for examination. A graduate research degree and experience in research and teaching are highly desirable. The ideal candidate should possess strong skills in the clinical practice of veterinary anesthesia and analgesia within a team-based environment, as well as outstanding teaching and communication skills. The successful candidate will work with four other board-certified anesthesiologists and four ACVAA residents covering small and large animal anesthesia. Much of your effort will be dedicated to teaching veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to DVM students and residents/DVSc students, including managing patients and consultation in the Ontario Veterinary College-Health Sciences Centre (OVC-HSC). Â
The Department is supported board-certified specialists in surgery, medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, diagnostic imaging, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, nutrition, and cardiology to provide didactic and clinical instruction in veterinary medicine and related disciplines to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The OVC-HSC offers state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including but not limited to a 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, state-of-the-art ultrasonography, scintigraphy, video endoscopy, anesthetic monitoring equipment, and a 24/7 staffed intensive care facility. Â
On-call duties will be remunerated in addition to base salary, and the schedule will be shared equitably with other anesthesia faculty members, supported by the residents. The candidate is expected to participate in independent or collaborative research. The successful candidate will mentor and supervise ACVAA residents and interns on a scheduled basis. Â
The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best patient care, research, and world-class veterinary education to Improve Life. The department highly values indigeneity, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and applications from equity-deserving groups are strongly encouraged. Â
