Research Associate 1
Under supervision, the Research Associate 1 supports the research, data, and analytical activities of the Energy Institute. This position assists with compiling and managing energy-related datasets, performing basic analysis, reviewing literature, and preparing research deliverables in support of the Institute's funded projects and programs. Tasks tend to be focused and limited in complexity, with emphasis on learning and applying established procedures under faculty and staff direction.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform data cleaning, maintenance and updating of energy-related databases and spreadsheets. The RA will use basic statistical analysis tools such as Excel, Stata, and R. This includes the documentation of data preparation and analysis procedures used to ensure data quality and reproducibility. They will also maintain detailed metadata to help other researchers understand the data sets they are working with. (30%)
Become familiar and learn to work with ArcGIS or other GIS software to create, edit, and analyze shapefiles and geodatabases. The candidate will also create maps and visualizations that effectively communicate spatial data insights. (20%)
Support and participate in research projects by working collaboratively with other research members by conducting literature reviews, collecting and validating data, and performing analysis at the direction of faculty. The RA will also contribute to the preparation of research reports and publications. (20%)
Assist with the Energy Institute outreach, update presentations geared towards stakeholders and other miscellaneous tasks. This also includes assisting with management of the Energy Information Center, Energy Institute website, and supporting the business manager & communications on an as needed basis. (20%)

Under supervision, the Research Associate 2 supports the research, data, and analytical activities of the Energy Institute. This position assists with compiling and managing energy-related datasets, performing varied analysis, reviewing literature, and preparing research deliverables in support of the Institute's funded projects and programs. The Research Associate 2 is distinguished from the Research Associate 1 in that duties are typically more varied and complex, and the incumbent is expected to work with greater independence and provide some independent analysis and interpretation of results.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform data cleaning, maintenance and updating of energy-related databases and spreadsheets with greater independence. Conduct more complex statistical analyses using tools such as Excel, Stata, and R, including independent interpretation of results. Document analysis procedures and maintain detailed metadata to support data quality and reproducibility. (30%)
Work with ArcGIS or other GIS software to create, edit, and analyze shapefiles and geodatabases. Create maps and visualizations that effectively communicate spatial data insights. May assist in developing new GIS-based research procedures and workflows. (20%)
Independently support and participate in research projects by conducting literature reviews, collecting and validating data, and performing complex analysis with less direct supervision. Write project summary reports and assist in preparing manuscripts for publication. May assist other researchers in developing new research procedures. (20%)
Assist with Energy Institute outreach, update presentations geared towards stakeholders and other miscellaneous tasks.
