Job description

Applies research theories, principles, statistics, and models when conducting experiments and research activities. Summarizes research results and communicates findings to internal and external bodies.  Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures projects are on time and within budget. Develops technical documentation for all projects and institutional knowledge. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Researches and analyzes data such as specifications, and industry standards to determine feasibility of application
  • Develops and carries out test plans, supervises process trials internally or at outside laboratories.
  • Designs or develops new products, systems, and test procedures.
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Prepares requirement and procedural documentation as required.
  • Devises new processes, or refines existing ones, to optimize the manufacturing process
  • Works with engineering and shop personnel in fabrication of prototype products and development of methods and procedures for testing products.
  • Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor. 
  • Understand and observe all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining clean, orderly and hazard-free work areas.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, test plans, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to write and read English

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s in Science in Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Five years prior experience in a related field, industry, or work environment is required.
  • Skills and experience to develop test procedures.
  • Experience in developing product requirements and documentation.
  • Experience in coatings synthesis, characterization, and application testing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar programs.
