Motion Control Engineering (MCE) has enjoyed a history of innovation, rapid growth and success. One of the early pioneers in the development of non-proprietary elevator controls, MCE is now the largest and most successful independent elevator control manufacturer in the world. MCE became part of Nidec Corporation which is the World’s leading manufacturer of motors ranging from small precision to Ultra-size Motors.


Job Description

MCE is looking to hire a skilled software test and release engineer to design and implement quality-check procedures and automated regression testing for our elevator controller software products. Manage software builds and production releases and provide training and support to internal teams.


Software Test Engineer Responsibilities

  • As a software test engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing the product features, designing test parameters, creating customized quality checks, and writing up final test procedures for the quality technicians.

  • To ensure success as a test engineer, you should have a good knowledge of engineering and product design, a good eye for detail, and the ability to think outside the box.

  • Ultimately, a good test engineer can create simple yet thorough quality-check procedures to ensure the peak performance of a product.

  • You will also be a part of the software build and release team and will be responsible for developing and maintaining scripts and workflows to automate the build process.

  • This involves compiling, packaging, and deploying software artifacts to various environments.

  • Implementing and maintaining software build scripts and pipelines to automatically build, test, and validate code changes.

  • This involves integrating with tools like Jenkins, GitLab, StarTeam, etc.

  • Routinely reviewing documentation, software build steps and test procedures for areas of improvement and where applicable, automation.

  • Additional responsibilities include becoming an expert in Elevator PC applications.

  • Provide Tier II support to internal teams.

  • Act as a liaison between tech-support, customers, and the R&D development teams.

  • Coordinate the implementation of approved engineering changes (ECOs).

  • This may involve working closely with design teams, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of changes.

  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to internal teams regarding the new product launches and engineering change process on existing products, including documentation requirements, approval workflows, and best practices.

  • This helps ensure that all stakeholders are aligned and capable of effectively managing changes.


Software Test Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or computer engineering or 2-4 years of relevant experience in the field.

  • Previous work experience as a software test or build engineer.

  • Proven experience in software development using high level languages such as C# or C++.

  • Experience with other programming languages (e.g., Python, Java) and familiarity with software development on multiple platforms (Windows and Linux) is a plus.

  • Experience with software development tools such as compilers, debuggers, version control systems, and build automation tools.

  • Knowledge of diagramming software including Microsoft Visio.

  • Knowledge of engineering and testing procedures.

  • Ability to manage projects and work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and think out of the box.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • High-level technical writing skills.
