Description
The University of Washington's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology, is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Research Assistant Professor to join our faculty. This will be a full-time academic appointment and is not tenure eligible.
Research assistant professorsare eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Position FTE may be negotiable.
Anticipated start date is July 2026, but other dates may be considered.

The Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center, CLiMB Research Center is a VA Rehabilitation Research and Development funded research center focused on the maintenance and enhancement of mobility in individuals with lower extremity amputation, as well as those with lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Research spans the continuum of care from prevention through operative, as well as non-operative, treatment. The research center includes investigators with a broad range of expertise, including the biomechanics of human movement, musculotendinous biomechanics, prosthetic engineering, virtual reality, 3D printing, amputee rehabilitation, epidemiology, biopsychosocial aspects of limb loss, and orthopedic surgery.
As a member of the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology, the successful candidate will participate in research and scholarship programs of the Center for Limb Loss and Mobility (CLiMB) based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Duties will include research from conceptualization, through design, data collections, dissemination of results and developing grant applications and submissions. The individual hired will have opportunity to collaborate with existing research teams, as well as to develop their own research portfolio. The Center is particularly interested in psychologists with backgrounds and skills that will contribute to the implementation science and shared decision-making research programs and who have experience conducting research with Veterans with limb loss.
The position is based at VA Puget Sound, with a full-time onsite presence required at the Seattle campus. In accordance with current federal policy, telework for VA-based personnel is only authorized with a federally approved disability accommodation.

COMPENSATION
This position is paid directly by VAPSHCS and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position.

The UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for outstanding research, clinical care and education and has a long history as a regional center. US News & World Report consistently ranks the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine among the top ten programs in the country. The Department has an exceptional record of successful extramural research funding and interprofessional collaboration and offers rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning.
As one of the largest recipients of rehabilitation research funding in the country, research is a key focus of our department. Key research focus areas include limb loss, pain, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and disability. Our faculty collaborate extensively with other departments within the School of Medicine, as well as with outside institutions. In fiscal year 2023, our department researchers received more than $15.7 million in awards from government and private sources. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)/ Administration for Community Living (ACL) were our top sponsors, comprising a total of 72% of the awards we received. In addition, our departmental faculty who are based at VA Puget Sound Health Care System have a total of $21.8 million in current funding.

Applicants must have a PhD or PsyD or foreign equivalent from an APA-approved clinical psychology graduate school program and also must be licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the State of Washington.
