Horticulture & Landscape Maintenance Technician


Garden City Tree & Landscape Ltd. is seeking a motivated Horticulture & Landscape Maintenance Specialist to join our Vegetation Management team.

This role combines landscape maintenance with horticultural practices, including plant care, garden bed maintenance, and supporting select high-end residential gardens with organic vegetable growing.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality work, has a passion for plants, and wants to continue developing their horticultural skills through hands-on experience and mentorship.

This is a great opportunity for someone with horticulture education, gardening, nursery, or farming experience looking to build a career in the landscape industry.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of our Vegetation Management team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, line trimming, edging, blowing, pruning, weeding, raking, and seasonal clean-ups.
  • Maintain garden beds, shrubs, trees, hedges, and ornamental plantings.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and seasonal displays.
  • Prepare and improve soils through mulching, composting, and soil amendments.
  • Monitor plant health and identify basic pest, disease, irrigation, and nutrient concerns.
  • Assist with the maintenance of organic vegetable gardens for select clients.
  • Learn and apply best practices for vegetable production, irrigation, soil health, and seasonal gardening.
  • Provide courteous, professional, and knowledgeable service to clients.
  • Operate landscape equipment safely while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Work collaboratively with experienced landscapers while continuing to develop your horticultural knowledge.


Qualifications:

  • A Diploma or Certificate in Horticulture, or a combination of horticultural education and practical experience.
  • Experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, nursery operations, farming, greenhouse production, or vegetable growing.
  • Basic knowledge of BC plants and seasonal growing conditions
  • A foundational understanding of plant health, soils, irrigation, and general horticultural practices.
  • A willingness to continue learning and growing professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour (lifting, digging, raking, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence interacting professionally with clients and providing basic horticultural advice when appropriate.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to accept coaching and mentorship.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is an asset
