Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Assistant (RA) should have experience working in a laboratory setting. Our laboratory is interested in experimental pediatric heart transplantation using piglets. The RA will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments. The RA will also attend daily clinical rounds to interact with the clinically active members of the laboratory. Our laboratory is well funded. The ideal candidate would still be interested in obtaining grant funding to achieve career progression to faculty or staff scientist.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field plus one (1) year of laboratory and animal research experience including breeding and genotyping, required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must know Biochemistry, Molecular and Cancer Biology, and tissue culture and microscopy skills.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to independently design and successfully carry out experiments in a laboratory setting.
  • Must record data and report clearly on the study's findings.
  • Willingness to perform animal studies is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Designs and plans experiments.
  • Participates in experimental transplantation, post-operative care, and analysis.
  • Organizes and maintains the lab.
  • Writes publications and protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
