Job description

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a R&D Project Manager within our Electronics Engineering team to help support our bedding  business.  Did you know we have been revolutionizing the sleep industry since 1883?  That's right!  In fact, we hold the original patent on a spiral steel coil bed spring, filed way back in 1885.  Since then, we have been an industry leader in guaranteeing you get the best sleep possible.  If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

As a R&D Project Manager you will have the opportunity to be hands-on in our engineering and/or product development environments.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by independently driving projects while continuing to grow in scope and responsibility.  The team you will be working with is collaborative and innovative, and values challenging work and diversity of thought. 

So, what will you be doing as a R&D Project Manager?

  • Manage the day-to-day execution of multiple R&D projects from concept through delivery
  • Partner with engineering and business stakeholders to define project scope, requirements, timelines, and success criteria
  • Develop and maintain practical project plans, schedules, and deliverables aligned with engineering workflows
  • Coordinate cross functional teams, including hardware and software developers, to support effective product development
  • Monitor project progress and provide clear, concise status updates to stakeholders and leadership
  • Identify and communicate project risks, issues, and dependencies, proposing mitigation strategies as needed
  • Support structured project reviews and milestone checkpoints throughout the development lifecycle
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of R&D project execution practices

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting or leading engineering, R&D, or product development projects
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a collaborative, fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross functional teams across different engineering disciplines
  • Working knowledge of engineering development processes and product lifecycle concepts
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to influence project outcomes through collaboration rather than formal authority

Things we consider a plus:

  • Experience working in a cross functional or matrixed project team environment
  • Familiarity with Agile, hybrid Agile/Stage Gate, Modified Agile for Hardware Development, or iterative development approaches
  • Exposure to both hardware and software development projects
