Job description

Research & Development Project Technician

Aviation Turkeys Inc. is looking for a Research & Development Project Technician to support our poultry breeding program through the implementation and execution of research projects and data collection activities. This position is responsible for collecting accurate and timely data that supports breeding decisions and genetic improvement efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with the R&D team and be accountable for carrying out project activities according to established protocols and departmental needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect measurements from designated flocks at specific stages of production using a variety of methods and equipment.
  • Collect biological samples for genomic analysis.
  • Assist with the implementation of new measurement techniques and research procedures as directed by the R&D Director.
  • Support special breeding program projects and research initiatives as assigned.
  • Record, organize, and maintain accurate project data and records.
  • Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, safety, and company procedures.
  • Assist with routine flock observations and other breeding program activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in an agriculture-related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to develop a practical understanding of pedigree breeding programs.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in poultry facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to dust, feathers, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
