Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Business Reporting Manager to join our Business Management Office ("BMO") within the Office of the CIO at the client. The BMO currently supports certain verticals within Technology, but over time, will support all verticals to provide the CIO with a full landscape of the business operations of Technology. As the BMO grows to support all of technology, existing processes and reporting must be improved upon and automated to scale and be repeatable, where able. The BMO seeks to hire this critical role to reinforce the existing team with both leadership and delivery of existing and routine deliverables while also looking for efficiency gains to scale.
The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience with analysis in both Finance and Operations, preferably within a financial services organization or within a technology line of business supporting a financial services enterprise. This individual will work closely with Technology teams and stakeholder groups like Finance and Accounts Payable, among others, to deliver routine operational reporting while improving the underlying reporting structures to drive BMO team efficiency. As the Business Reporting Manager, this individual will be a working manager from day one - directly contributing to report definition and output while leading, coaching, and developing the team. This role requires a strong background in Tableau and PowerBI, and familiarity with ServiceNow. Additional technologies may include AWS Athena, SQL, Python, SharePoint, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage business operations data, reporting, and analysis efforts for Technology.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, CIO level reporting needs, and the ability to create from new. This role will play a central role in helping to define and create meaningful executive reporting.
  • Requires strong executive presence.
  • While this is not a Finance role, strong familiarity with FP&A, forecasting, and budgeting is needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Technology to review and create new report requests, and enhancements to existing reports, to ensure alignment to existing data and reports while streamlining delivery of the reports.
  • Able to offer guidance and best practices while collaborating
  • Can see and understand the broader objective while working through the details to deliver the right reporting solution.
  • This requires collaboration with internal BMO reporting team members and alignment with BMO guidelines.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with data standards at the client.
  • Facilitate meetings, presentations, and updates for senior management and other key stakeholders. Able to lead by influencing these stakeholder groups.
  • Directly lead, coach, and mentor BMO analysts and reporting resources, including reviewing technical work and guiding problem-solving on reporting and data challenges.
  • Knowledge of best practices for data aggregation and report development
  • Ability to perform data validation and troubleshoot reporting anomalies.
  • Act as a point of contact for the BMO, ensuring excellent customer service to internal stakeholders while balancing efficiency.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while understanding the underlying risks to help re-prioritize work.
  • Maintain documentation for processes, procedures, and system configurations, as needed.
  • Able to create new business processes and continuously improve existing processes, reports, and methodologies to increase efficiency and quality of deliverables.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented but also understand and communicate the key messages hidden in the data to face off with various Technology leaders.
  • Own and support budget reporting, staffing reporting, workforce reporting, operational reporting, and spend reporting for the BMO and Technology organization, among others.
  • Drive reporting automation initiatives to eliminate manual, spreadsheet-based processes; establish and enforce reporting standards, governance, and data quality frameworks.
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of the reporting architecture across tools including AWS Athena, ServiceNow, SharePoint, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Excel; identify scalability and efficiency improvements.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial analysis within the banking or financial services sector. However, this is not a finance role.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders; ability to draw out key messages from the data while tying the data back to business needs of the Technology team - identifying the 'so what'.
  • Strong data analysis and report creation; able to synthesize data into key messages and drive strategic conversations.
  • Ability to develop and enforce reporting standards, governance policies, and data quality practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive and C-suite audiences, translating technical analysis into business narratives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop analysts; experience as a working manager who remains a hands-on contributor.
  • Critical thinker with strong organizational skills and detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple efforts concurrently while ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and work independently.
  • Tableau and Power BI experience required; hands-on practitioner who can personally build reports and dashboards.
  • Experience with AWS Athena and SQL.
  • Experience with Python for reporting automation and data processing.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
