Job description


KABB/WOAI is looking for a take-charge Anchor/Reporter who can also anchor a Saturday evening show and be ready to fill-in anchor on any given day. We are seeking a motivated, energetic, creative, and aggressive reporter who can think and perform outside the box. The ideal candidate should be able to develop story ideas and gather information for newscasts, have sound writing skills, a great work ethic, and a can-do attitude. The best person for this job will have excellent live shot skills, thrives on breaking stories, and from both the field and the anchor desk, provide a strong on-camera presence who speaks clearly and effectively with confidence.
No day will look the same as a Reporter, however, the main responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Create, gather, and write meaningful stories for station newscasts, websites, and social media platforms
  • Provide news on-air as directed by the news management team
  • Engage with local community members
  • Review material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
  • Work closely with all members of the news team, which would include Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Managers, etc.

As an anchor:
  • Deliver a strong, engaging presence from the desk
  • Practice solid research and fact-checking
  • Show the ability to write and edit scripts effectively and efficiently
  • Have strong interviewing skills
  • Communicate clearly on-air to viewers and behind-the-scenes with producers
  • Be flexible as you may fill in on our Fox SA morning and 9p shows, News 4 Morning, Early Evening, and Late shows

Additionally, this person should...
  • Have proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
  • Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms
  • Possess strong writing and copy-editing skills
  • Have 2 years of experience as a Reporter
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred
  • Be Able to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • The ability to shoot and/or edit when called upon
