Position Overview
Historically, reporting responsibilities have been decentralized across various business units, with individual Business Analysts maintaining their own reporting solutions. The organization is now centralizing these capabilities within IT to improve consistency, scalability, and data-driven decision making.
The Power BI Report Writer will partner closely with business leaders and stakeholders, particularly within Customer Service and other operational departments, to gather requirements, develop meaningful dashboards, and deliver actionable business insights. The environment is well-established, with documented data dictionaries and existing data architecture in place, allowing the successful candidate to focus on creating impactful reporting solutions rather than building foundational data structures from scratch.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that support business objectives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Create meaningful visualizations and metrics that drive operational and strategic decision making.
  • Utilize SQL to query, manipulate, and validate data from established data sources.
  • Present findings and insights to business leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to improve enterprise reporting capabilities.
  • Support the development of a centralized reporting and analytics function.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting automation.

Required Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI.
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to query and analyze data from multiple sources.
  • Proven experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting solutions.
  • Experience creating executive-level dashboards and analytical reports.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with business stakeholders and leadership teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with C# development.
  • Experience designing or integrating APIs.
  • Background within the utilities industry.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide business intelligence and analytics initiatives.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique
  • Highly visible role with direct executive sponsorship.
  • Opportunity to become a foundational member of a growing analytics team.
  • Clear roadmap for career growth and advancement.
  • Established data environment with documented data dictionaries and reporting resources.
  • Ability to influence reporting strategy and help build a best-in-class business intelligence function.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a technically strong Power BI professional who enjoys partnering directly with the business. They can confidently gather requirements, build impactful dashboards, and communicate insights to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. They are excited by the opportunity to help build a centralized reporting function and grow with a company that views data and analytics as a strategic priority.
