Position Overview: Non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. is seeking a student currently enrolled in graduate level studies in the fields of nutrition or public health or in a dietetic internship program for a paid, full-time, eight-week, remote internship promoting plant-based nutrition starting in spring, summer, or fall semesters for 2027.

About the Internship

Position Title: Susan Levin Nutrition Intern

About the Nutrition Team: Over the past four decades, the Physicians Committee's nutrition department has achieved many important successes. We have contributed to promotion of plant-based foods in state and federal nutrition guidelines, carried out clinical research studies that have revolutionized the treatment of diabetes, and provided the scientific foundation for the health benefits of plant-based diets. We aim to propel continued progress through direct patient care, nutrition education, and advocacy.

About the Internship: The Susan Levin Nutrition Internship honors the late Susan Levin, MS, RD, CSSD, who served as the Physicians Committee's Director of Nutrition Education for 17 years. Susan Levin fought long and hard for better health and nutrition, not only for the patients under her care and for the participants in the programs she led, but for society as a whole. Participating in this internship is a valuable opportunity to work with an organization at the forefront of the movement to change the way doctors, dietitians, and other health professionals treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer.

The Susan Levin Nutrition Intern will provide support for the nutrition team's education and policy programs. Internship learning opportunities may include:

•Developing educational materials and presentations
•Providing research for local and federal nutrition-related policies
•Answering nutrition questions from program participants and the general public
•Assisting with planning the annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine (ICNM)
•Supporting educational programs such as the Food for Life, the National Diabetes Program, and Let's Beat Breast Cancer programs

All interns will receive an orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor. Interns who are in dietetic internship programs will be mentored by one of our registered dietitians. The Physicians Committee will assist the intern in obtaining course credit if applicable.

Work Location: Remote. The Physicians Committee can only accept applications from people who will be living in and working from the following jurisdictions for the duration of the internship: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington state, and Washington, D.C.. Interns located in the Washington, D.C. area may have the opportunity to visit our Washington, D.C. office and to participate in in-person activities and events.

Required Travel: Interns serving during the month of August will travel to Washington, D.C. for the Physicians Committee-sponsored annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine (ICNM).

Time Frame and Work Schedule: This is a full-time, eight-week internship. The exact schedule and the start and end dates can be flexible to accommodate the intern's program and location. The Physicians Committee's core business hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, ET.

Compensation: This is a nonexempt paid internship. The internship compensation is $18.40 per hour.

All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
