What is a remote web developer volunteer?

A Remote Web Developer Volunteer is someone who offers their web development skills to organizations or projects without receiving monetary compensation, and they work entirely online from any location. These volunteers typically help build, maintain, or improve websites and web applications for nonprofits, startups, or community initiatives. The role can involve coding, designing user interfaces, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating virtually with team members. Volunteering remotely as a web developer allows individuals to gain experience, build their portfolio, and contribute to meaningful causes while enjoying the flexibility of working from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote web developer volunteer?

To thrive as a Remote Web Developer Volunteer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles, often supported by experience with web development projects or coursework. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, and collaborative platforms like GitHub or Slack is typical. Strong self-motivation, communication, and time management skills help you excel in a remote, team-based environment. These abilities enable effective contribution, project delivery, and collaboration without direct supervision.

How does a remote web developer volunteer typically collaborate with team members across different locations?

Own where you work. Braun Intertec is proud to be a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting, geotechnical engineering, and testing firm of 1,000 employees with offices located in ten states. As a part of our exciting growth initiatives, we are continuing to build relationships in emerging markets and recruiting new talent. By hiring the best people and helping each other grow both professionally and personally, we ensure a bright future for our employee owners and our clients.
We want our employee-owners to be fully engaged - at home, at work, and in their communities. We provide our employees with a full range of benefits including comprehensive medical, vision, and dental plans, paid time off (as well as volunteer time off), company match 401k, participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), technical training and career development resources, and access to our wellness program. Renewable energy and infrastructure projects are largescale developments that generate electricity and move it across long distances. These are utilityscale projects that require engineering, construction, and gridintegration work to expand and strengthen the energy system.

Mission critical projects are landintensive developments that create unique geotechnical challenges, such as major grade changes, heavily loaded structures, complex belowgrade utility and duct bank networks, and fastpaced construction schedules. Their speed and complexity demand close oversight to quickly identify and resolve issues, reduce risk for all stakeholders, and provide the technical expertise needed to exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform oversight of other field personnel on remote job sites.
  • Perform various field testing and observations at remote job sites.
  • Assist field operations on remote projects with technician training and review.
  • Closely coordinate field observations with engineering project lead.
  • Develop scopes of work and prepare proposals for moderate to complex geotechnical engineering projects, primarily in the power and renewables or mission critical field.
  • Prepare proposals for moderate to complex projects.
  • Review field logs and soil samples for classification and boring log preparation.
  • Perform engineering analysis using company and industry methodologies.
  • Prepares engineering reports for senior review.
  • Manage routine to complex geotechnical engineering projects including project scope, schedule, budget, and safety.
  • Work independently on specific assignments of limited scope with Senior review.
  • Perform quality review of work performed by assigned staff; identify, investigate, and resolve internal and external quality issues on projects.
  • Coordinate with regional operations to effectively coordinate staff, resources, and workloads.
  • Ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Support client relationships to effectively achieve power, renewables, and mission critical market-sector goals and strategies.
  • Must be action oriented, able to effectively/efficiently manage time, and able to learn quickly.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong organization and customer service skills.
  • Ability to exceed client expectations while thriving in a time critical / dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and communicate project budgets

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) ingeotechnical, civil, or related engineering field required.
  • Two or more years of construction materials testing or geotechnical engineering experience preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with large-scale construction projects preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Expected travel is 60 to 90%.

Braun Intertec offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, PTO, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), paid holidays, paid volunteer day, tuition reimbursement, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
