Position Summary

Apex is looking for a Transportation Designer who enjoys turning engineering concepts into high-quality, buildable construction plans. This role plays an important part in the success of our roadway, drainage, sidewalk, trail, and multimodal transportation projects throughout Florida.

Working alongside engineers and project managers, you'll use OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation to develop models, plans, exhibits, and project deliverables that help our clients improve transportation infrastructure in their communities.

What You'll Do

You'll support projects from early design through final plan production, helping transform survey data, engineering concepts, and project requirements into coordinated construction documents.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Developing roadway models and construction plans using OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation.
  • Producing plan sheets, cross sections, details, exhibits, and project graphics.
  • Supporting quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinating with engineers, surveyors, utility coordinators, and other project team members.
  • Participating in quality control reviews and maintaining project standards.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Experience preparing transportation or civil engineering construction plans.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer.
  • Strong attention to detail and understanding of plan production standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • FDOT roadway design experience.
  • Experience with ProjectWise, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, or related software.
  • Familiarity with roadway, drainage, intersection, sidewalk, trail, or multimodal transportation projects.
