What is a remote user testing?

A Remote User Testing job involves evaluating websites, apps, or other digital products by providing feedback on usability, design, and overall user experience. Testers follow specific instructions to complete tasks while sharing their thoughts and observations. Companies use this feedback to improve their products before launching them to a wider audience. No specialized skills are required, but attention to detail and clear communication are essential. Most remote user testing jobs are freelance or part-time, with testers getting paid per completed test.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote user testing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote User Testing, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and experience with usability testing, often supported by a background in UX/UI, HCI, or related fields. Familiarity with user testing platforms (such as UserTesting or Lookback.io) and screen recording/annotation tools is commonly required, though formal certifications are not always mandatory. Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and the ability to provide constructive feedback help you stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately evaluating digital products, delivering clear insights, and ensuring a seamless remote work process.

What are some common challenges faced in remote user testing roles?

One of the most common challenges in remote user testing is maintaining clear communication with product teams when you are not physically present. Testers often need to quickly adapt to different products and testing tools, manage time effectively across multiple projects, and avoid misinterpretation of user feedback due to lack of face-to-face interaction. Working remotely also requires a high level of self-motivation and discipline to meet deadlines without in-person supervision. However, these challenges can be mitigated by proactive communication, thorough documentation of findings, and leveraging collaboration platforms to stay connected with teams.

How do you become a remote user tester?

To become a remote user tester, you typically need to sign up with testing platforms that connect testers with companies, complete profile assessments, and sometimes pass a sample test to demonstrate your ability to evaluate websites or apps. Basic computer skills, a reliable internet connection, and attention to detail are important for success in this role.

UI/UX Developer Mostly Remote but must be available for onsite work in Atlanta, GA as needed GC Holders and US Citizens per government contract Target Salary: $115K As a UI/UX Designer, you will be responsible for creating intuitive, user-centric interfaces that enhance the overall user experience of our digital products. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including product managers, developers, and other stakeholders, to translate complex workflows and requirements into seamless and visually appealing designs. Your role will involve leading the design process from concept to implementation, managing design systems, and advocating for accessibility and user-centered design principles. If you have a passion for digital design, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you. Key Responsibilities: • Lead end-to-end UI/UX design — from concept to implementation — including wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that deliver seamless, user-centric digital experiences. • Develop and maintain scalable design systems and component libraries in Figma to ensure visual and functional consistency across all products. • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to translate complex requirements and workflows into intuitive, accessible, and visually cohesive interfaces. • Incorporate research and feedback through user testing and iterative design reviews to refine solutions and enhance usability and engagement. • Design for advanced experiences, including AI-driven interfaces, chat and agent workflows, and data visualizations, while adhering to accessibility standards and brand guidelines. Must-Haves: • 2+ years of experience in UI/UX design, product design, or interaction design • 2+ years of experience with visual design skills including typography, layout, and hierarchy • 2+ years of strong proficiency with Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems) • Ability to translate complex workflows into clear intuitive user interfaces • Ability to design for ambiguous emerging product spaces • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and development teams • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and adhere to quick turnaround times. • Knowledge of AI-driven product experiences (e.g., chat interfaces, agent workflows, data visualization for models, prompt interaction patterns) • Knowledge of UX fundamentals: information architecture, interaction patterns, accessibility, and responsive design • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance • Bachelor’s degree Nice-to-Haves: • Experience designing interfaces for AI/ML tools, LLM-powered products, or workflow automation • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and synthesizing insights into design decisions • Experience with service design or journey mapping, including synthesizing customer insights into actionable design requirements and deliverables (personas, workflows, concepts) • Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS, React, or component libraries) System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America. We help clients get work done more efficiently and economically, without compromising quality.
