JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer II
LOCATION: Remote - US
THE ROLE: As a Senior Software Engineer II on the Audio Core team, you'll work with Engineering, Design, and Product Management to help our users create incredible music. You'll drive the development and improvement of large, complex applications, libraries, and services that power our DAW Plugins, Web, Desktop, and Mobile apps — and use your experience to shape the roadmap, not just execute against it. You'll have the opportunity to influence the creative flow of musicians while working with talented, creative and inclusive teammates.

TEAM INFORMATION: The Audio Core Team is responsible for the development of the Splice Desktop application and DAW plugins, including the Splice Sounds plugin. This includes design and development of the audio engine and the user interface.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the audio engine that powers Splice's DAW plugins
  • Work closely with the Product Management and Product Design members to help shape the user experience
  • Represent the team in technical and business related discussions
  • Propose new solutions that improve the maintenance, efficiency, or feature depth, get buy-in across the organization, and realize those proposals
  • Reach beyond your comfort zone to make changes in UI and back-end code
  • Rapidly iterate and experiment with new concepts for creative workflows
  • Participate in code reviews to shape our code—and the way we think and talk about our work
  • Serve as the go-to expert in an area of the codebase, and proactively share that knowledge across the broader engineering organization
  • Facilitate alignment across teams on goals and technical tradeoffs; author RFCs to propose new feature implementations or improvements to existing ones
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects that deliver measurable results tied to organizational goals, working cross-functionally to align stakeholders
  • Mentor other engineers, regularly provide constructive feedback, and help raise the bar in code reviews for how we build and approach our work

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10+ years of software development experience building and maintaining production quality audio software
  • Have driven complex, ambiguous technical initiatives from problem definition through delivery
  • Expert audio engineer, knowing intimate details of signal processing, real-time systems development, multithreading, and AI/model solutions
  • Expert at software performance optimization
  • You've built software with JUCE or other plugin frameworks.
  • You've written production-quality code in C++ and TypeScript. Expert C++ developer.
  • Strong architectural skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong agentic coding skills, including harness engineering
  • You have a bias towards action and experimentation
  • You are driven by quality
  • You can translate ambiguous, on-the-ground insights into a concrete plan and rally others around it
  • You are not afraid to ask questions
  • You are comfortable, or even prefer working across technical stacks
  • You get excited about data and using it to make technical decisions
  • You communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • You are comfortable both deploying and maintaining code in an agile environment
  • You thrive on delivering quality work under tight deadlines

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Technical experience with the following:
    • Angular UI Framework, Rust, Go
    • WebAssembly and Emscripten
    • iOS or Android development using the native tool chains
    • Web Audio
  • Musical background as an instrumentalist or vocalist
  • Music creation software experience
  • Implemented AI models for inference in a creative field (audio, image, video)
  • Trained AI models for use in a creative field (audio, image, video)

SPLICE BENEFITS:

  • Compensation & Equity: Competitive pay with annual reviews and equity opportunities.
  • Time Off: Unlimited PTO to recharge and thrive.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company match.
  • Parental Support: 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for non-birthing parents, and 18-20 weeks for birthing parents.
  • Flexible Work Options: Work remotely or connect at our office hubs and creative spaces worldwide.
  • Professional Growth: Annual learning budget, leadership programs, and team ambassador opportunities.
  • Community & Connection: Inclusive events, team meet-ups, and vibrant Employee Resource Groups.
