VP Finance

Location: Remote (UK-based or US-based preferable)

Job Status: Full-time, permanent

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP Finance will serve as our client's senior finance leader, responsible for building and running a proactive, forward-looking finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a commercially minded finance professional who thrives in high-growth environments and is as comfortable rolling up their sleeves on day-to-day execution as they are contributing to strategic decisions at the leadership table.

The VP Finance will own financial planning and analysis, cash management, reporting, and controls, while also playing an active role in supporting investor relations and preparing the business for its next fundraising round.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Build and maintain bottoms-up budgets, rolling cash flow forecasts, and long-range financial models
  • Develop and own a suite of KPIs and financial reporting that provides the leadership team with timely, actionable insight into business performance
  • Conduct scenario analysis and financial modelling to support commercial and strategic decision-making
  • Provide proactive analysis of the financial implications of key business decisions

Finance Operations & Controls

  • Own the month-end close process, driving accuracy and timeliness
  • Strengthen financial controls, purchasing processes, and data capture across the organisation
  • Manage and develop one direct report (staff accountant), based in Edinburgh
  • Evaluate and, where appropriate, improve the company's financial systems and tools

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Work closely with the CEO and leadership team as a trusted financial partner, contributing to commercial strategy, pricing, and operational planning
  • Translate financial data into clear narratives that support informed decision-making across the organisation
  • Identify and communicate financial risks and opportunities proactively

Investor Relations & Fundraising

  • Lead financial preparation for future fundraising activity, including investor-facing models, data room management, and due diligence support
  • Maintain relationships with the board and investors, presenting the company's financial position with clarity and confidence
  • Ensure reporting standards and financial governance meet the expectations of institutional investors

Candidate Requirements

Experience

  • Experience in a finance role within a high-growth startup or scale-up business, ideally at Series A to C stage
  • Strong FP&A capabilities with demonstrable experience building financial models, forecasts, and budgets
  • Experience working in lean, fast-moving organisations where hands-on execution is expected alongside strategic contribution
  • Familiarity with SaaS or subscription-based business models is advantageous
  • Prior experience supporting fundraising processes and engaging with investors or boards
  • UK accounting knowledge preferred; professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) is an advantage

Personal Characteristics

  • Proactive and self-directing - identifies problems and drives solutions without being prompted
  • Commercially curious and business-minded, with a genuine interest in the wider performance of the organisation
  • Comfortable working at pace in an environment of rapid growth and change
  • Willing and able to operate hands-on, building processes and capabilities alongside day-to-day execution
  • Clear and confident communicator, capable of presenting financial information to senior stakeholders and investors
  • Comfortable working across UK and US time zones in a globally distributed team
  • A genuine enthusiasm for sport and an appreciation of the sports technology space; prior experience in sport, sports technology, or an adjacent industry is welcomed, though not essential
