What Does a Remote Translator Do?

A remote translator converts information from one language to another, working with both written texts, audio files, and live spoken language. As a remote translator, your duties and responsibilities vary depending on your employer or client, from interpreting rental agreements and legal contracts to translating entire books, resources, or live meetings and events. Relying on your language fluency and communication skills, you work from home to interpret documents and translate them as accurately as possible. Some remote translators work over the phone or through video chat systems to provide translation services in real time, such as when working for court systems or in the medical industry.

What are remote translators?

Remote translators are language professionals who work from a location of their choice, often from home, to convert written text from one language to another. They use digital tools and communication platforms to receive assignments, translate documents, and deliver their work electronically. Remote translators may work as freelancers or for translation agencies, often specializing in specific industries such as legal, medical, technical, or literary translation. This role requires strong language proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines without direct supervision.

Remote Translators mainly handle written language translation, working independently on documents and texts. Remote Interpreters focus on real-time spoken communication, often during live events or meetings. Both roles require language proficiency and relevant certifications, but they differ in work environment and job nature. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right remote language role that matches their skills and preferences.

How does a remote translator typically collaborate with clients and project managers to ensure translation accuracy and consistency?

As a remote translator, you’ll frequently communicate with clients and project managers via email, messaging platforms, and specialized translation management systems. Collaboration often involves clarifying terminology, understanding context, and addressing feedback to ensure the translated content meets client expectations. Many remote translators also participate in virtual meetings or use shared glossaries and style guides to maintain consistency across projects. Building strong communication skills and being proactive about asking questions are key to delivering high-quality translations and fostering successful long-term client relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Translator, you need advanced proficiency in at least two languages, strong grammar skills, and often a relevant degree or certification in translation or linguistics. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, terminology databases, and secure file-sharing systems is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and cross-cultural communication skills help you deliver accurate translations and build client trust. These abilities are vital for producing high-quality work efficiently while collaborating remotely with clients and teams.

Job description

Company Description

Connecting companies and candidates anytime, anywhere, Hirevue's end-to-end hiring platform features video interviewing, assessments and conversational AI. The industry leader in science backed, modern hiring solutions powered by ethical AI, Hirevue has hosted more than 70 million video interviews and 200 million chat-based candidate engagements for over 1200 pioneering customers around the globe.
Job Description
We are looking for a Technical Product Manager to own the strategy, roadmap, and execution of our integrations product area. In this role, you will bridge the gap between deep technical architecture and meaningful customer outcomes, ensuring our platform connects seamlessly with our customers' enterprise Human Capital Management (HCM) ecosystems-with a heavy emphasis on Workday.
If you love diving into API documentation, collaborating with brilliant engineers, and launching products that solve massive data workflow problems for global enterprises, let's talk.
What You'll Do
As the Product Manager for Integrations, you will lead the full product lifecycle from hypothesis to launch. Your time will be focused across four core areas:
  • Product Discovery & Lifecycle (30%): Partner with a Product Designer and Engineering to validate customer needs. You'll take integrations-like a Workday-certified connection-from initial concept and data mapping through certification and General Availability (GA).
  • Roadmap & Agile Management (30%): Serve as the Product Owner in Agile ceremonies. You'll own backlog grooming, prioritize feature requests based on target KPIs, and actively unblock development teams daily.
  • Go-to-Market & Enablement (10%): Collaborate with Product Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to build launch strategies, design deployment playbooks, and bring new integration partnerships to market.
  • Product Analysis & Health (10%): Track metrics that matter-including sync success rates, customer time-to-integrate, and support volumes-to continuously optimize performance.
  • Support & Collaboration (20%): Provide feature training, answer product questions, and keep the broader company informed on your product line's success.

Qualifications
What We Are Looking For
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, Integration Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Implementation Consultant.
  • Proven track record of shipping API products or integration platforms, ideally within the HR-Tech/HCM space.

Technical Expertise
  • Integration Methodologies: Strong understanding of REST APIs, SOAP, webhooks, SFTP, and event-driven architectures.
  • The Workday Ecosystem (Highly Preferred): Hands-on familiarity with Workday Web Services (WWS), Studio, EIB, Extend, and Workday Recruiting/HCM data models.
  • Security & Data: Experience with OAuth 2.0, SAML, enterprise authentication patterns, and JSON/XML payloads.
  • Bonus points if you have experience with other HCM/ATS platforms (e.g., SuccessFactors, Oracle, UKG, Greenhouse).

Key Competencies
  • Systems Thinking: The ability to map complex data flows across multiple connected systems and anticipate downstream impacts.
  • Technical Fluency: Comfortable speaking the same language as internal engineers and customer IT teams without needing a translator.
  • Ruthless Prioritization: The ability to use data to make tough decisions and comfortably say "no" to protect team focus.
  • Empathy & Leadership: A collaborative spirit who can rally cross-functional teams around a shared vision.
