Job Description ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS. The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Statewide Public Facilities, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 Flex in Anchorage or Fairbanks to help us Keep Alaska Moving. Base Salary Information: Engineering Assistant 1: $33.76-$34.77 hourly (OT Eligible) Engineering Assistant 2: $38.91-$40.08 hourly (OT Eligible) Engineering Assistant 3: $44.49-$45.82 hourly (OT Eligible) What you will be doing: As an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3, you will perform routine architectural/engineering assignments or assist higher-level architects/engineers with a wide variety of activities

Work involves well-defined assignments or fragments of more complex projects and is reviewed on a regular basis and upon completion. This position serves as part of a management team that oversees Statewide Public Facilities improvement projects through planning/scoping, design, and construction phases. This position functions as the Project Engineer overseeing construction projects of varying size and complexity under the supervision of a Project Manager.

Responsibilities include monitoring construction activities; coordination with contractors and design professionals; scheduling and budgeting; preparation of project documentation and reports; and oversight of work performed by contractors. This position is based in Anchorage or Fairbanks (depending on where the selected candidate resides); however, project location may vary and temporary relocation to remote communities for the duration of a construction project can happen. This flex position allows for growth and increased responsibility as experience is obtained.

Who we are looking for: To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies: General Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of engineering and their practical applications. Facilities: Knowledge of the physical, engineering, and experimental equipment and operational characteristics of facilities, and safety and equipment development designed to support aerospace activities. Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.

Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Special Note: Valid Driver's License is required.

May require occasional travel to project sites. This may include flying to remote communities in small aircraft with infrequent need for overnight stays with minimal accommodations. Requires site inspections which may occur in adverse weather conditions.

Engineering Assistant 2 Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET. AND One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Or: A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET.

AND An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination. AND One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Or: Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution: Graduate study in engineering and/or architecture may be substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month of experience). Special Note: The employing department will identify Engineering-In-Training (EIT) positions.

Transcripts which indicate the credit hours earned for the specific coursework may be requested at the time of interview or prior. Engineering Assistant 3 Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET. AND Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level.

The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Or: A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET. AND An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

AND Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. Substitutions: Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month). If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
