Job description

Inova IT Voice Engineering is looking for a dedicated Sr. Telecommunications Specialist to join the Team. This remote role will be full-time working Monday - Friday day shift. 

The Sr. Telecommunications Specialist serves as expert in the technical aspects of video/voice networks and communication technologies. Responsible for design, architecture, installation, modification and maintenance of voice and video telecommunications systems and services for assigned Inova Health System locations. Performs all services necessary to design, install and move telephone and voice connections including, but not limited to, programming software, basic ACD applications, call processing applications and other voice applications. Performs all services to repair and troubleshoot pagers, paging systems, wireless and cordless communications systems and telephone connections. Maintains complete and accurate documentation involving completion of service request, resolutions of issues reported through leadership, other members of the team, customer support line, or approved project work efforts. Consistently communicates technical issues with other members of the team. Trains and orients designated staff and provides feedback to manager as appropriate. Develops, manages and communicates assigned projects and project plans. Designs and implements of VoIP and PBX systems.

Sr. Telecommunications Specialist Job Responsibilities:

  • Expertly designs, architects, installs, and configures large, complex telephone systems.
  • Creates & maintains short & long-term voice architecture plans (including cost estimates) & connectivity strategies.
  • Plans and implements unified messaging platform & systems by coordinating with systems engineering teams,..
  • Plans and implements voice network capacity and assists with capacity monitoring & reporting. Sets up, restores and performs backup for systems.
  • Leads the recovery from a disaster or a major voice network or system outage.
  • Assists with system performance trending, documenting, and reporting.
  • Identifies, isolates, and resolves complex 2nd and 3rd level problems to support team members and customers. Assists with escalating problems when necessary and assists in providing proper documentation and communication.
  • Leads technical team members on technical issues or independently resolves complex technical issues in a timely manner. Assists with coordinating technical staff support (internal & external) for escalated problems.
  • Trains and orients designated staff and provide quarterly feedback to the manager.
  • Notifies & communicates changes, including emergency changes, with appropriate IT & Clinic staff. Communicates & reviews post change status & results with appropriate IT & Clinic staff. Updates documentation to reflect change.
  • Develops project plans which lead to timely and successful project completions. Communicates project status to internal and external audiences.
  • Prepares detailed specifications and flowcharts for implementations of new, large, complex internal systems that may require connectivity to multiple complexes and vendor systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree; or Associate's Degree and 2 years relevant professional experience in addition to the minimum experience required; or HS Diploma/GED and 4 years relevant professional experience in addition to the minimum experience required
  • Experience: 8 years of telecommunications experience
  • Certification: 2 or more certifications - CCENT, CCNP, ACSS, ACIS, Nortel, Avaya ACSS or equivalent upon start

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Cisco in a cloud-based environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with Avaya systems preferred.
