Job description

About Buildkite

Buildkite's CI platform is trusted by the world's leading engineering teams, shipping software to over 1,000,000,000 daily users.

Job Overview

We're looking for a Senior Content Writer to turn Buildkite's point-of-view into a coherent, compounding editorial system: writing that earns trust, sharpens our differentiation, and moves developers and buyers through the journey-without sounding like devtools marketing.

Narrative for Buildkite scales through a clear PoV, consistent standards and repeatable editorial loops that translate strategy into artifacts people actually read, share, and act on.

You'll build that machine; high-signal writing, technical truth and a cadence that keeps Buildkite's story crisp in-market.

We're only interested in writers who can operate like a builder; strong taste, comfort with technical review and the discipline to run an editorial OS that compounds instead of restarting for every launch.

What You'll DoShip a dev-first demand engine
  • Own campaign execution across priority pillars, from conceptasset planlaunchiteration
  • Build programs that serve devs and buyers; credibility up top, clarity in the middle, conversion at the bottom
  • Create a repeatable cadence that aligns our Labs (Brand Systems + Dev Voice + GTM)
Build an editorial system, not a content queue
  • Establish a clear editorial strategy aligned to our strategic pillars
  • Own the editorial backlog: what we write, why it matters, what gets deprioritised, what gets refreshed
  • Create governance and standards so voice stays consistent and trust doesn't erode
Translate our narrative PoV into writing devs respect
  • Write high-signal pieces that feel like contribution
  • Develop narrative threads that power campaigns, launches, sales conversations and DevRel programming
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical reviewers so output maps to dev reality
Turn proof into stories that travel
  • Convert real proof into durable assets; customer stories with teeth, engineering-led writeups, migration narratives, reliability stories
  • Partner with Content Engineering and DevRel to capture raw material and shape it into readable truth
  • Build proof packs that GTM can reuse without distorting the narrative
Increase conversion through clarity
  • Clarify what Buildkite is, who it's for, why it's different and where the value lies
  • Target common friction points: eval confusion, migration anxiety, reliability doubts, and 'why not X?' comparisons
  • Ship content that supports time-to-first-value and adoption pathways
Make distribution and iteration real
  • Work collaboratively to package writing for distribution
  • Instrument performance with the right success signals: authority growth, share-of-voice, high-intent conversion, pipeline influence
  • Refresh and retire content with discipline; no rotting posts, no outdated claims, no drift
Run an OS that compounds

You'll operate with a cadence that scales beyond any single person:

  • Editorial loop; backlogbriefdrafttechnical reviewpublishrefresh
  • Proof loop; source realityshape storyvalidateshipreuse
  • Signal loop; capture questions/objectionscategoriseroutewrite what fixes it
  • Distribution loop; packageamplifylearniterate
  • Quality loop; voice standardsreview gatessamplingcorrections
  • Coherence loop; align with Brand/GTM/Dev Voicereduce narrative drift
What You Bring

This role only works with writers who have taste, spine, and technical honesty.

  • Proven experience writing in devtools/technical B2B with outcomes you can point to
  • Sharp editorial judgment
  • Ability to write across formats
  • Comfort working with technical reviewers, incorporating feedback without losing clarity or voice
  • Strong narrative systems thinking
  • You avoid hollow claims, protect credibility, and insist on evidence
  • You can define success and iterate based on what's real
  • High-agency collaboration
  • Clear async communication
Nice-to-haves
  • Experience building an editorial program from scratch
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps and the realities of eng teams at scale
  • Experience shaping customer proof into credible stories
  • Comfort working with distribution mechanics
  • A portfolio that shows range and taste
How We Work
  • Autonomously, with agency; you'll join a small team of high-performing ICs, with the ability to drive and influence business impact from the start
  • Async by default, with focused sync for decisions, pairing, and unblock moments
  • We ship iteratively; small releases, tight feedback loops, measurable improvements
  • We document and work in the open; decisions, risks, tradeoffs, fails, the lot
  • We aim for craft and delight, but we don't worship polish over progress
Why Join Buildkite

At Buildkite, we value kindness, autonomy, and collaboration. You'll be joining a remote-first company where your work directly helps some of the world's best engineering teams build and ship software faster and more safely.

  • Competitive compensation, including salary and benefits package
  • Flexible, remote-first culture
  • Meaningful technical challenges at scale
  • Opportunities for professional growth, technical leadership, and cross-team influence
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture where your ideas make a real impact
