As a mental health counselor, you will primarily work from home while providing remote consultations and assessments. However, regular visits to our outpatient office in Wallkill will be necessary for client evaluations and interdisciplinary team meetings. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve a range of clinical tasks designed to address the mental health needs of patients within the correctional system. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting thorough mental health evaluations and crisis interventions for incarcerated individuals.
• Performing comprehensive assessments to determine the proper level of mental health care for each patient.
• Coordinating the disposition of patients with correctional staff to ensure adequate treatment access and necessary accommodations.
• Leading group therapy sessions within mental health observation units, guiding discussions and exercises to foster therapeutic connections.
• Engaging in case conferences with interdisciplinary teams to plan and review patient treatment strategies and progress.
• Completing required documentation and statistical reports in compliance with organizational and legal standards.
• Participating in weekly clinical supervision with the Clinical Supervisor to enhance your skill set and receive constructive feedback.
• Possibly conducting psychological testing and overseeing social work interns to aid in their professional development.
• Performing other duties as assigned that align with the goals of the department and organization.

The primary patient population for this role includes incarcerated individuals who may present with a variety of mental health concerns, including behavioral issues, substance use histories, and severe mental illnesses. As a therapist in this setting, you will have the opportunity to work with this unique demographic, advocating for and addressing their mental health needs in an environment that often presents unique challenges. • A valid license as an LCSW, LCSW-R, LMHC, or LMFT in the state of New York.
• A Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of two years of full-time, paid professional experience providing direct client care in a behavior health setting.
• Three additional years of post-licensure experience in mental health counseling.

• Experience in conducting clinical assessments and treatments specifically with individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.
• Inpatient care experience or related work within institutional settings is highly preferred.
• A strong understanding of correctional health care processes and the challenges unique to working with incarcerated populations.

The annual salary for this Licensed Mental Health Counselor position ranges from USD 115,000 to 130,000, reflecting your experience and qualifications.
