Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver short-term crisis counseling to non-violent patients experiencing mental health episodes, focusing on de-escalation and support.
  • Engage in collaborative responses with law enforcement officers during mental health crises, providing expertise and support on-site.
  • Train police personnel on best practices for handling mental health situations, aimed at minimizing force and promoting effective de-escalation techniques.
  • Manage cases by coordinating with third-party entities, including the Department of Mental Health and various psychiatric facilities, conducting regular check-ins and follow-ups with patients.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of confidential client information, adhering to all relevant legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication amongst stakeholders, including law enforcement, psychiatric staff, and clients, to promote collaborative care.
  • Assist with psychiatric evaluations conducted in the community to determine the necessity for 5150/5585 involuntary detention applications.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work will primarily focus on a varied patient population, involving both arrestees and community members dealing with mental health crises. You will play a vital role in ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive timely, empathetic, and appropriate support. The dedication to improving their quality of life and facilitating access to necessary resources will be central to your practice.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is required.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, along with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, essential for interacting with clients, families, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations, showing a positive attitude toward clients and colleagues.
