I Series Systems Administrator (REMOTE - US ONLY)

Location: 100% Remote (Must reside in the United States)
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Duration: Contract (Long-term potential)
Security Requirement: Due to security constraints, candidates must be based in the U.S.

Position Overview:

We're actively seeking a skilled I Series Systems Administrator to support and manage an enterprise-grade IBM i environment. You'll be part of a remote team managing high-availability systems across multiple data centers using IBM Power Systems and advanced SAN storage solutions. This is a remote role with a highly stable organization committed to modernization and infrastructure excellence.

Tech Stack & Environment Details:

  • OS: IBM i Operating System v7.5
  • PTF Management: Latest Cumulative Pack (24312) + Group PTFs recently applied
  • High Availability: MIMIX for replication (DR + Support environments)
  • Server Infrastructure:
    • Local (Portsmouth): 4 IBM Power Servers (3x P9, 1x P10)
    • DR Site (Chicago): 1 IBM Power10 Server
    • 19 Total LPARs across all systems
  • Storage:
    • Portsmouth: FlashSystem 9100
    • Chicago (DR): FlashSystem 7300

Role Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support I Series (AS/400) systems and related infrastructure
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and patch LPARs across multiple physical systems
  • Maintain replication and high-availability configurations using MIMIX
  • Ensure system backups, flash copies, and DR readiness
  • Collaborate with storage and application teams on performance and availability
  • Participate in regular system health checks and upgrades

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience administering IBM i / AS400 / I Series systems
  • Proficient with MIMIX replication and DR procedures
  • Familiarity with LPAR configuration and system saves
  • Experience working with IBM Power9 / Power10 hardware
  • Exposure to SAN-based storage (IBM FlashSystem preferred)
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with systematic full system saves using flash copies
  • Previous exposure to large-scale enterprise systems
  • Familiarity with modern patching strategies for IBM i
