Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments tailored to the geriatric population, evaluating psychological, emotional, and social factors that affect the well-being of older adults.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, ensuring that each plan addresses cognitive changes, physical health considerations, and social support systems.
• Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions such as individual and family therapy, focusing on conditions like depression, anxiety, and dementia-related disorders.
• Collaborate closely with geriatric psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure a shared understanding of treatment goals and ongoing patient care.
• Offer crisis intervention and support in mental health emergencies, including swift response strategies tailored specifically to geriatric patients.
• Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment avenues, and available community resources to foster informed decision-making.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of all patient interactions and treatment interventions in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
• Actively engage in team meetings, case discussions, and ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and understanding of geriatric mental health.
• Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in geriatric psychiatry to continually improve service delivery.

Patient Population / Client Focus

You will primarily work with elderly patients facing various psychiatric conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, and cognitive impairments such as dementia. Building a trusting rapport with these patients is crucial, as many may experience anxiety related to their mental health challenges and require reassurance and empathy throughout their treatment journey.

Qualifications

• A master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
• Current licensure as an LCSW, LCPC, or LMFT in the state where you serve clients.
• Strong understanding of the distinct mental health attributes associated with the geriatric population.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems and telehealth applications to provide seamless care.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach to service delivery.
• Adept at establishing rapport with elderly patients and their families, enhancing the therapeutic alliance and treatment outcomes.

Preferred Experience

• At least two years of post-licensure experience in mental health counseling focusing on geriatric patients.
• Experience providing evidence-based therapy techniques tailored for older adults.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team setting, sharing insights and best practices to elevate patient care.

Compensation and Benefits
