Substation Physical Engineer (REMOTE)

This engineering consultancy is a nationally recognized provider of power infrastructure solutions. Their utilities team supports electrical grid modernization, renewable integration, and substation design for electric and gas utilities. Position Summary

The Substation Physical Engineer will lead the physical design of new substations, supporting major utility clients across the U.S. Responsibilities include developing layouts, schematics, grounding calculations, and compliance with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI. This position requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, substation design experience, and a PE license.

Responsibilities

  • Design substation physical layouts and prepare general arrangement drawings
  • Perform calculations: grounding, AC/DC loading, cable sizing, lighting, bus sizing
  • Develop electrical plans, bills of materials, and technical specifications
  • Collaborate with project engineers, designers, and utility clients
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable codes and client-specific standards

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required
  • PE license required
  • 5–8+ years of substation design experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
