Job description

Overview
We are designing the grid of the future!
EPE is a leading energy engineering consultancy delivering high-impact solutions across conventional thermal, renewable, storage, and hybrid power systems. As a Senior Electrical Engineer - Thermal Power Generation, you will serve as a primary technical resource for the electrical design and integration of conventional thermal generation assets - including gas turbines, reciprocating (RICE) engine-generator sets, and their balance of plant (BOP) - working alongside experienced technical leaders on technically complex, high-visibility projects spanning the full lifecycle from feasibility and design through commissioning and operations support. As a licensed Professional Engineer, you will independently deliver and stamp high-quality consulting deliverables across simple-cycle, combined-cycle, cogeneration (CHP), and reciprocating engine plants, provide technical guidance to project team members, and actively contribute to EPE's internal knowledge base and best practices.
EPE supports a flexible work environment. This role is open to remote candidates based in the United States or Canada, with travel required for client engagements, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities
How you can make an impact:
  • Independently develop and stamp AC Single Line Diagrams (SLD), HV/MV power distribution designs, and facility grounding schemes for thermal generation facilities
  • Select and specify electrical equipment - including transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and instrumentation - to meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards
  • Lead installation oversight, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and troubleshooting for gas turbine and reciprocating engine plants
  • Serve as a licensed technical resource for project teams, providing PE-level design guidance and peer review on electrical deliverables
  • Ensure all electrical design deliverables comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and other applicable regulatory and industry requirements; sign and seal documents as required by applicable jurisdiction
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, civil, and structural engineers to ensure full integration of electrical systems with plant BOP and auxiliary systems
  • Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of EPE's internal technical standards, design templates, and best practices for thermal generation projects
  • Support business development activities including proposal development, scope definition, and client technical presentations
  • Own personal project delivery against defined scope, schedule, and budget objectives, proactively identifying and escalating risks

Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what's needed:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus, or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated electrical power systems design experience
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license Required
  • 7+ years of electrical design experience for gas turbine, cogeneration, or reciprocating engine power plants
  • 7+ years of experience with HV/MV electrical systems in power generation or industrial facilities
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop and stamp SLDs, HV/MV distribution designs, grounding schemes, and electrical equipment specifications
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE 80, IEEE C37, and related standards applicable to power generation facilities

Preferred
  • PE licensure in multiple states or willingness to obtain reciprocal licensure as project needs require
  • Experience with major thermal generation OEMs, including gas turbine manufacturers (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Solar Turbines) and reciprocating engine manufacturers (Wรคrtsilรค, Caterpillar, MAN)
  • Hands-on experience leading FAT/SAT and commissioning activities for turbine or engine-generator plants
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and controls systems for gas turbines and RICE gensets
  • Proficiency with electrical design and analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Experience across simple-cycle, combined-cycle, CHP, and reciprocating engine plant configurations
  • Prior consulting or owner's engineer experience

How we support you:
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits including medical, dental, and vision with 100% premium coverage for you
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • MyShare Employee Ownership Program
  • Work with industry leaders
  • 401K, up to a 4% match (100% vested from day 1)
