The Opportunity

The Director, Finance Data Applications, Controls, and Stewardship leads critical capabilities that enable Finance to manage trusted data and deliver reliable business insights. This leaderis responsible forFinance data stewardship and the business management of key data applications, including Snowflake-enabled solutions and financial allocation applications that connect financial performance and costs to USAA products and membership.

This role sets the strategic direction for these capabilities and leads a high-performing team responsible for data quality, business definitions, application priorities, access and application controls, and the effective delivery of Finance data. Working closely with Finance, Technology, Risk, and enterprise Data and Analytics partners, the director helps ensure that Finance data and applications are well controlled, fit for purpose, and positioned to support sound decisions and measurable business outcomes.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Charlotte, NC.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Leads and collaborates on the strategic, tactical, operational, and financial responsibilities associated with Function or Line of Business data storage, data preparation, data exploration, information governance, analytics and information delivery.

  • Oversees and coordinates the strategy of subfunctions in the establishment and execution on the delivery of information and analytics platforms and solutions to the business' key stakeholders and cross-functional partners.

  • Responsible for successful end-to-end process of information management, analytics and delivery.

  • Ensures industry trends and best practices are evaluated and integrated into current process, technology, and development of strategic plans.

  • Provides thought leadership and system thinking to influence relevant data, information, and application architecture decisions to include staying abreast of changes or evolution to industry standards.

  • Leads data reporting to identify reporting opportunities, analytics, and complex projects that include retirement of reports and promotion of advanced self service capabilities.

  • Provides input on strategic insights to senior leaders and key stakeholders that contribute to functional objectives.

  • Understands the business direction, environment, and strategies, to set the analytic direction and creates strategy to execute the approach that will influence business and drive change.

  • Influences and oversees innovation, provides direction on work prioritization, manages capacity, assists with problem resolution.

  • Oversees the Information delivery experience and risks to ensure teams maintain understanding of business processes, supporting data and applications and presentation of findings and recommendations.

  • Identifies and pursues opportunities to utilize advanced data a delivery and business solutions techniques to optimize their contribution to resolving business issues.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, or quantitative field; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.

  • 8 years of progressive experience leading data, analytics, application, or information management capabilities in a complex organization.

  • 3 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.

  • Experience setting strategy, managing priorities, and delivering complex initiatives across business and technology teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and align cross-functional stakeholders around shared objectives.

  • Experience identifying and managing business, operational, data, or application risks within established control frameworks.

  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to translate complex issues into clear recommendations and business outcomes.

What sets you apart:

  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.

  • Finance data stewardship or data-owner experience in a financial services or highly regulated organization.

  • Business ownership of Finance, financial allocation, profitability, or enterprise data applications.

  • Experience with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform, including access, security, and application controls.

  • Knowledge of financial allocation methodologies across products, customers, members, or business segments.

  • Experience partnering with enterprise data governance, technology, cybersecurity, risk, compliance, and audit teams.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $164,780 - $314,960.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
