As an Underwriter at Understory, you will be at the forefront of an innovative venture. Your pivotal role in accurately assessing and pricing risk will contribute significantly to creating profitable insurance products for our partners and clients alike.

Your primary role responsibilities will include:

  • Directing the assessment, underwriting, and pricing of complex property and casualty commercial insurance risks
  • Guiding the review of insurance applications to gauge the degree of risk involved accurately
  • Steering the development of innovative underwriting strategies to achieve business growth and profitability
  • Collaborating closely with sales, customer service, and senior management teams to manage, retain, and grow our client base

You're exactly what we're looking for if you:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of property, casualty, or life underwriting experience, with a track record of managing large accounts (experience with multiple lines is a plus)
  • Have demonstrated ability to forge strong broker and carrier relationships 
  • Develop and utilize advanced analytical, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of insurance policies, admitted and non-admitted regulations, and market trends
  • Possess outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
  • Are highly organized, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in Dealer's Open Lot is a strong plus
