Job Description Welcome to the Department of Education & Early Development (DEED). We'd be delighted to have you join our team. If you envision yourself in this role and are ready to start an exciting career with us, apply today.

What You Will Be Doing: In this role, you will: Coordinate fiscal and grants management activities supporting the Alaska Reads Act, Early Learning programs, and the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant. Prepare budget materials, monitor expenditures and encumbrances, analyze fiscal trends, and compile financial and program reports. Maintain accurate grant and fiscal records, process reimbursement documentation, and track reporting requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.

Use state accounting and grants management systems to reconcile information and help identify fiscal, documentation, or compliance concerns. Work closely with program staff and administrative partners to coordinate established fiscal, procurement, grant, and reporting processes. Our Mission, Values, and Culture: The Department of Education and Early Development's mission is to provide an excellent education for every student every day.

DEED provides leadership, resources, and support to strengthen Alaska's K-12 public education system through statewide initiatives focused on student achievement, accountability, educator support, and continuous improvement. This position contributes to that work through strategic planning, cross-divisional coordination, legislative and board reporting, grant implementation support, and communication efforts that support Alaska's students, educators, schools, and districts. Benefits of Joining Our Team: Join a collaborative team dedicated to supporting statewide literacy and early learning initiatives that benefit Alaska's students, families, and school districts.

This position offers opportunities to build expertise in state government operations, grants management, budgeting, procurement, and program administration while working with knowledgeable professionals across the department. You will gain valuable experience supporting complex state and federally funded initiatives in a team-oriented environment that values collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. Flexible work schedules and hybrid telework options help support a healthy work-life balance.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This position may be based in either the Juneau or Anchorage office and offers flexible work options, including in-office, hybrid, or remote work, depending on operational needs. The work is primarily office-based and involves regular collaboration with program staff, administrative support teams, and department partners supporting statewide literacy and early learning programs. We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies: Budget Administration: Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.

Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues. Grants Management: Knowledge of requirements, practices, and procedures for soliciting, receiving, reviewing, and processing proposals, and awarding and administering grants and agreements.
