Job description

Job Title: Substation Engineer

Job Description:

MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced Substation Engineer (100% remote nationwide). Our client is a Construction Engineering and Power Service Corporation looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. They are known to respect a traditional work week and often extend contracts for added job security and stability
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop physical layout designs, single-line diagrams, grounding plans, and wiring schematics.
  • Prepare engineering calculations including short-circuit, grounding, lightning protection, and equipment ratings.
  • Create technical specifications, bills of materials, and procurement documents for major substation equipment.
  • Coordinate with protection & controls (P&C), civil, and transmission engineering teams.
  • Support construction teams with RFIs, field changes, redlines, and commissioning support.
  • Ensure designs meet NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and utility standards.
  • Review vendor drawings and ensure equipment compliance (transformers, breakers, switches, relays, etc.).
  • Use AutoCAD/Inventor/MicroStation or equivalent tools to produce design packages.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power preferred).
  • 3–7+ years of experience in substation design (utility or EPC environment).
  • Knowledge of high-voltage equipment, grounding systems, and protection principles.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or related design platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PE license or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with PSCAD, CYME, ETAP, or SKM software.
  • Previous work with major utilities or consultants (Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, Worley, POWER Engineers).
Additional Information:
Work schedule: 100% remote in the US
Hours per week: 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday
