Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking is seeking a highly motivated Software Development Engineer with Water Resources software development experience to join our Kansas Operations. Qualified applicants are required to have experience with water resources modeling applications, Information Management & GIS, Python and R programming. Our ideal candidate prefers to focus on water resources related projects and has a degree either in computer science or computer information systems. Applicants with a minimum of 5-10ย years of experience are preferred.ย 

Key Responsibilities:ย 

  • Work as part of a team to develop software applications for engineering and information management projectsย ย 
  • Build custom applications and tools that integrate with other H&H engineering software programs such as HEC-RASย 
  • Utilize open-source GIS-based tools to develop H&H modeling suites for flood modeling applicationsย 
  • Analyze and develop innovative solutions to improve upon existing applicationsย 
  • Work within a team of programmers nationally, predominantly focused on water resources application development in support of our flood hazard mapping program, potentially including the maintenance and upgrade of existing toolsย 
  • Support project managers in the development of custom applications to improve process efficiencies and ensure project success, as well as conveying potential application development concepts to our clientsย 
Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systemsย 
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting water resource applications and/or information management projectsย 
  • Python, C#, JavaScript experience is a mustย 
  • Desired experience of applicants includes:ย ย 
  • R Scriptingย 
  • IM/GIS Applications (i.e. ArcGIS, QGIS, Asset management software)ย 
  • Intermediate knowledge of HPC / Data Scienceย 
  • Water Resources Engineering Modeling Softwareย ย 
  • USACE Software Application Development (i.e. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, etc.)ย 
  • Supplemental experience in one or more of the following areas will also be considered in addition to those required above:ย ย 
  • ArcGIS Online and Web Mapping Applicationsย 
  • Batch Scriptingย ย 
  • SQL Database Management and analysisย 
  • Fortran Programmingย 
  • Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) Applications (i.e. NVIDIA, CUDA Python, PyCUDA, etc.)ย 
  • Field Collection/Mobile Applications (IOS, Android, etc.) and associated Esri field collection apps (FieldMapsย 
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)ย 
  • Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and/or AIย 
  • Experience with data processing imagery and LiDAR from web services, UAS, or other remote sensing platformsย 
  • Understanding of IT protocols, networking, and database managementย 
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skillsย
