Job description

Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a PAINTER (Title 32), Position Description Number D2127000 and is part of the AR ARNG CSMS, National Guard.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQURED- If you are not currently a member of any military service (Brach/Status), please provide a letter stating intent to join.

Duties
Help
(1) Prepares surfaces (i.e., metal, wood and glass) by removing rust, paint, and loose particles. Fills in holes and dents using body fillers and hardeners. Sands and evens out dents and scars to assure a smooth and level surface using sanders, scrapers, sandpaper, hand tools, wire brushes, and paint remover. Applies coatings to specified areas ensuring the surfaces are free from skips, runs, and drips. Applies rustproof compound to areas such as splash panels, quarter panels, seams structural members, and underbody construction. Applies coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray paint equipment.
(2) Prepares coating materials using guidelines set by the manufacturer, by tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives (i.e., retardants, hardeners, drying agents, and other additives) needed for the different coatings to work properly and achieve the necessary surface appearance. Uses measuring equipment (i.e., Zhan cup) to achieve the proper viscosity and thickness for applying the coatings. Applies prime, intermediate and final coats of semi-gloss, gloss and other paint, lacquer, enamel, varnish and shellac. Ensures that match, texture and appearance meet finish requirements. Replaces and applies markings/lettering as specified by appropriate manuals.
(3) Applies coatings using acceptable methods of the trade to include special finishing techniques to achieve desired results. Reads and interprets blueprints when applying camouflage patterns. Replaces markings and letterings as specified by the appropriate manuals. Reads and interprets directions that relate to mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and precoating agents.
(4) Monitors and adjusts air pressures in paint booth, controls heat settings and drying times in drying booth to achieve proper surface adhesion of coatings. Completes records for paint usage and paint waste as per environmental regulations.
(5) Applies Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (CARC) materials in accordance with specifications and dimensions. Manages workflow into the paint shop as assigned by the supervisor. Determines what jobs can be done in a series or if items need to be completed alone. Confers with the customer when needed to best achieve the desired results. Cleans and maintains painting equipment.
(6) Performs other duties as assigned.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Military Grades: Enlisted
Minimum Grade - E-5/ SGT
Maximum Grade - E-7/ SFC
Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard.
IMPORTANT NOTES (AS APPLICABLE): Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation. A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor). Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO). Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
WG - Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of surface preparation (removal of rust, dirt, paint, etc.); coating methods (brushing, rolling, and spraying); and coating materials (paints, varnishes, shellacs, etc.). Must have the ability to use tools and equipment associated with the painting trade and to read and interpret directions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
WG-09 - Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of any surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Skill in building up, shaping, and leveling surfaces with metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds; obtain finely smoothed surfaces with abrasive compounds, pumice, and rottenstone; even out dents and scars by burning-in processes; and treat surfaces with pre-coating agents.
