Remote Sports Content Writers are professionals who create engaging articles, analysis, reports, and other content about sports while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They cover topics such as game recaps, athlete profiles, sports news, and opinion pieces, often for websites, blogs, or digital publications. These writers need strong writing skills, a passion for sports, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. The remote aspect allows them to contribute from anywhere, using digital communication and collaboration tools.

How does a remote sports content writer typically collaborate with editors and other team members while working off-site?

As a Remote Sports Content Writer, you'll frequently use digital tools such as email, project management platforms, and video conferencing to stay connected with editors and fellow writers. Regular check-ins, editorial meetings, and feedback sessions are commonly scheduled to ensure consistency in voice, accuracy, and timely delivery of content. Clear communication and responsiveness are essential, as you'll often work independently but rely on collaborative input for brainstorming topics, editing drafts, and aligning on publishing deadlines.

Job description

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha Schools. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.
We are hiring a Sports Writer to own the words behind our brand. You will write feature stories on our athletes, coaches, and games, produce blog posts and newsletters that reach the families we want to serve, and handle the day-to-day copywriting for landing pages, ad campaigns, and social. This is a full-time remote role for a writer who can move between long-form storytelling, content marketing, and short-form copy without losing voice.
What You'll Do
  • Write Feature Stories: Report and write feature stories on our athletes, coaches, games, and milestones that give families and fans a real look inside the program.
  • Produce Content Marketing: Write blog posts, newsletters, and SEO-driven articles on athlete development, academic performance, and life inside the program that bring qualified families to Texas Sports Academy.
  • Handle Copywriting: Write landing pages, ad copy, email sequences, and social captions across campaigns, adapting voice to platform and audience while keeping the brand consistent.
  • Interview Athletes, Coaches, and Families: Run interviews that surface the real story, and turn raw quotes into copy that reads clean, honest, and on-brand.
  • Own the Editorial Calendar: Plan, prioritize, and ship a steady cadence of content. Coordinate with the video and marketing teams so writing lines up with the rest of what we are producing.
  • Measure and Improve: Track how content performs, learn what works, and use those signals to sharpen future stories, headlines, and campaigns.

Requirements
  • Portfolio of Published Writing: A body of published work spanning features, content marketing, and copywriting. You can show us examples of each and speak to how you built them.
  • Range Across Formats: You can write a 1,500-word feature, a 400-word newsletter, and a landing page headline in the same week without any of them feeling flat.
  • Sports or Athletic Content Experience: Prior work covering youth sports, college athletics, or professional sports, or writing for a team, league, brand, or athlete audience.
  • Editorial Judgment: You know how to find the story in an interview, cut what does not belong, and make an editor's job easy.
  • Content Marketing Fluency: Working understanding of SEO fundamentals, hooks and headlines, and how to write copy that drives action, not just impressions.
  • AI Forward: You use AI tools every day as a research partner, editor, and first-draft accelerator. You know where they help, where they do not, and how to keep a human touch to your writing. Familiarity with tools such as Perplexity Computer and Claude is a plus.
  • Reliable Home Setup: Quiet workspace, strong internet, and a working webcam and microphone. Available during standard U.S. business hours (Central Time preferred).
  • Location: Remote (U.S. only). U.S. work authorization required.

Bonus Points
  • Journalism or Editorial Background: Prior experience in a newsroom, magazine, or professional editorial environment.
  • Athlete or Coaching Background: Personal or professional experience in competitive athletics or coaching that lets you speak the language of players and coaches.
  • CMS and Email Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with WordPress, Webflow, HubSpot, Mailchimp, or a comparable stack.
