What is a remote speech language pathology CFY?

A Remote Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) job is a supervised, entry-level position for recent graduates working toward full SLP certification. In this role, the clinician provides virtual speech therapy services to clients while being mentored by a licensed SLP. Responsibilities include assessing and treating speech, language, and communication disorders using teletherapy platforms. This position allows new graduates to complete their required clinical fellowship hours remotely. Upon successful completion, the fellow becomes eligible for their full Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.

What are the typical responsibilities and caseload expectations for a remote speech language pathology CFY?

As a Remote Speech Language Pathology CFY, your daily responsibilities often include conducting virtual assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, delivering therapy sessions, and documenting client progress. You may work with a variety of clients, such as children in school settings or adults requiring speech and language intervention, and your caseload size can vary depending on the employer and program. Supervision from a licensed, ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist is standard throughout your fellowship year, providing mentorship and guidance on clinical skills and professional development. Remote work allows for some flexibility in scheduling, but good time management is essential for balancing documentation, sessions, and ongoing collaboration with your supervisor and, in some cases, interdisciplinary teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote speech language pathology CFY position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Speech Language Pathology CFY (Clinical Fellowship Year), you need a master's degree in speech-language pathology, strong foundational knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques, and eligibility for state licensure as well as ASHA certification. Familiarity with teletherapy platforms, electronic documentation systems, and HIPAA-compliant technologies is important for effective remote service delivery. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help you connect with clients virtually and manage your caseload independently. These competencies are critical to providing high-quality clinical care, maintaining compliance, and successfully completing your fellowship requirements in a remote setting.
