Remote Space Robotics information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote space robotics, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote space robotics often encounter challenges such as communication delays, limited real-time feedback, and operating in unpredictable environments. These issues require strong problem-solving skills, meticulous planning, and the ability to adapt quickly to new data from space missions. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including software engineers, systems engineers, and mission controllers—is essential to develop robust solutions and ensure mission success. Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in robotics and autonomous systems can also help manage these complexities effectively.

What are remote space robotics?

Remote space robotics refers to the design, operation, and control of robotic systems that are used in space environments and are operated from a distance, often from Earth or an orbiting spacecraft. These robots perform tasks such as satellite servicing, planetary exploration, and maintenance of space stations. They are essential for missions in environments that are too dangerous or inaccessible for humans. Operators use sophisticated controls, cameras, and sometimes artificial intelligence to guide these robots and complete complex missions. Careers in this field often require knowledge of robotics, aerospace engineering, and remote sensing technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Space Robotics Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Space Robotics Engineer, you need a solid background in robotics, mechanical or electrical engineering, and experience with space systems, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with programming languages (such as C++ or Python), robotic simulation software, and space communication protocols is typically required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability skills are crucial for addressing unexpected challenges in remote and high-stakes environments. These skills ensure reliable robot operation, mission success, and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams in the demanding field of space exploration.

About NSS
NSS is a leader in Agentic Automation and a certified UiPath Public Sector Business Partner, helping government and mission-driven organizations transform their operations through intelligent automation. We are growing rapidly and looking for exceptional talent to join us on high-impact programs.

The Opportunity
We have an immediate opening for a part-time UiPath Solution Architect (10+ hours/week) to provide senior architectural leadership on a cutting-edge automation initiative in the satellite and space domain. In this role, you will set the technical direction for the program's RPA solutions; defining standards, guiding a development team, and ensuring that all automation is secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture. This is a focused, high-impact engagement for an experienced architect who thrives in a strategic, advisory capacity. This position is 100% remote and requires U.S. Citizenship.

What You'll Do
  • Define and own the end-to-end technical architecture for UiPath-based automation solutions across the program
  • Establish development standards, design patterns, and best practices for the development team to execute against
  • Lead solution design reviews and provide authoritative architectural guidance on automation approaches, integration patterns, and scalability
  • Oversee the integration strategy for AI-enabled platforms - including Anthropic (Claude), ChatGPT/OpenAI, Power BI and Microsoft Copilot - into the automation ecosystem
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and security teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise and compliance requirements
  • Review and approve technical documentation including Solution Design Documents (SDDs) and architecture artifacts
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for the development team on complex design and integration challenges
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in RPA, AI, and low-code technologies and translate them into actionable architectural recommendations

What You Bring
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a UiPath Solution Architect or Senior RPA technical lead, with a proven track record of designing enterprise-scale automation solutions
  • Deep expertise in UiPath architecture, including Orchestrator (On-Prem & Automation Cloud), integration design, and security best practices
  • Experience defining and enforcing development standards and architectural governance across development teams
  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments, including integration patterns, identity management, and compliance requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
  • UiPath Certified Professional - RPA Advanced Developer or Solution Architect certification
  • Experience architecting AI-augmented automation solutions using platforms such as Anthropic (Claude), ChatGPT/OpenAI, or Microsoft Copilot
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and agentic automation concepts
  • Background in public sector, defense, or mission-critical environments; experience in the satellite or space domain is a strong differentiator

Why NSS
  • Shape the technical foundation of a first-of-its-kind automation program in the satellite and space sector
  • High-impact, focused engagement - strategic architecture work without the overhead of day-to-day development
  • Work at the intersection of enterprise RPA and cutting-edge AI integration
  • Be part of a certified UiPath partner team with deep public sector expertise
  • Fully remote, flexible engagement
