Job description

Role Title: JAVA - Tech Team Lead
Location: 100% remote (Westchester IL).
Duration: It is a 6-month continuous contract.

Job Description:
As a technology Team Leader, this role is accountable for coordination, instruction and review work of assigned systems. Acts as technical specialist regarding programming languages, development tools, system interfaces and hardware specifications. Performs hands on development and system administration as needed. Specific responsibilities in the roles are listed below.
Responsibilities:
Project Governance and Delivery: 80%
- Provide input on the evaluation of IT products, partners, associated vendors and facilitate the successful implementation of new technologies.
- Responsible for designing application modifications or new applications by performing business process and applications analysis, preparing technical specifications which includes business process flows, functional diagrams, database schema, use cases, program specifications and pseudo code to illustrate application features and functions.
- Participate in the development, alignment and implementation of the IT platform roadmap.
- Performs hands-on development or configuration where technical expertise is needed and business priorities dictate.
- Formulates and defines system scope and objectives for assigned application support and projects.
- Estimate complexity for assigned projects and prepare feasibility studies that specify alternative solutions, technical features and related costs.
- Work closely with the Application Development Manager, Project Managers and business managers to establish work priorities and provide status.
- Monitor and coordinate work of assigned staff or consultants engaged in designing, developing and maintaining systems. Generate statistics and status reports for management and/or team members on the status of assignments.
- Act as a technical specialist regarding programming languages, development and testing tools, system interfaces, hardware specifications, and the like.
- Educate clients on business system operations and work with consultants on software conversions, modification and resource applications.
Support and Operations: 10%
- Devises procedures to solve complex problems considering business strategy, system capacity and limitations, operating time, desired results and staff capabilities in the assigned platform/system.
- Performs independent system research to troubleshoot issues and analyze current application or system features/functions.
Compliance, Governance and Risk Management: 5%
- Enforcement and oversight of platform/systems compliance, governance and risk management. Align with the overall business and IT standards/guidelines.
Administrative: 5%
- Participate in the maintenance, licensing and purchase of information technology software systems.
Related Experience:
  • Previous technical experience with Oracle ORPOS or Xstore ideal.
  • Knowledge of current POS technologies and Payment Systems.
  • Current or previous Java development experience.
  • Strong background in one or multiple application platforms such as; eCommerce, POS, Fulfillment, Merchandising Management, Finance/Accounting, Integration.
  • Experience in implementing Omnichannel Retail applications desired.
  • Experience in the following technologies desired; IBM/HCL Commerce, Oracle, POS, IBMi, DB2, JDA MMS, IBM Sterling OMS, Java, .NET, SPA.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the details of programs / projects in order to drive them to fruition.
  • Ability to absorb a wide breath of initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, team building and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to communicate technology matters to business partners, senior executives, and strategic partners.
  • Successful in obtaining results in a large corporate, matrixed environment.
  • Capable of gaining support for initiatives through influence and use of business rationale.
  • Proven ability to make and implement tough decisions.
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise scale, complex programs successfully.
  • People leadership and management skills, including direct experience leading, managing and mentoring.
  • Successful track record of delivering programs on scope, on time, on budget, on quality and on benefit.
  • Proven experience interfacing in the cSuite of large organizations.
  • Experience leading programs in the education domain
  • Prior experience working for a Big 4 or Professional Services Consulting firm.
  • Advanced degree, preferred.
