What is a remote solutions architect?

A Remote Solutions Architect is a professional who designs, develops, and implements technical solutions for clients or organizations, while working remotely rather than in a traditional office setting. They collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements, evaluate technology options, and create architectures that meet both technical and business needs. Remote Solutions Architects often work across various industries, leveraging cloud computing, software development, and system integration skills. Their role requires strong communication abilities, as they frequently coordinate with distributed teams and clients through digital platforms.

What does a remote solutions architect do?

As a remote solutions architect, you work to design services or applications that an organization uses for their solution development team. You usually work alongside an enterprise architect to help with a company’s strategic direction. You focus on technical decisions that the other team members use to implement the solutions. You use predictive information, analytics, and big data to build computer systems to meet a specific computing need for an enterprise. Your customer is usually a company that needs help with their technology architecture. Since this is a remote position, you work from home to perform most of your responsibilities and duties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote solutions architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solutions Architect, you need deep expertise in systems design, cloud platforms, and software architecture, usually supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud services (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), architecture frameworks (such as TOGAF), and relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration skills are essential for understanding client needs and working effectively with distributed teams. These skills and qualifications ensure the successful design and delivery of scalable, secure, and efficient technology solutions in a remote environment.

How does a remote solutions architect effectively collaborate with distributed teams and clients?

As a Remote Solutions Architect, collaboration often relies on virtual communication tools such as video conferencing, shared documentation platforms, and project management software. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams—including developers, project managers, and client stakeholders—to design and implement technical solutions. Clear communication, proactive documentation, and regular check-ins are essential to ensure alignment across different time zones and locations. Building strong relationships remotely can be challenging, but leveraging collaborative tools and establishing structured communication routines helps maintain project momentum and team cohesion.

Job description

Solutions Architect
Location: USA, East Coast Preferred. This is a Remote (work from home) position.
Experience Required: 4+ years
About the Position
As a Solution Architect, you will play the lead technical role in customer engagements-helping our customers design and implement successful data extraction workflows and workspaces. Your work as a key part of our Professional Services team will be diverse and impactful.
In your day-to-day, you will act as a trusted advisor for our customers, helping them understand the application of GenAI & ML to their business processes. You'll liaise with internal teams to solution for novel customer requirements, and when necessary, write custom code to bridge the gap between product capabilities and customer needs.
Solutions Architects are expected to be highly efficient and resourceful when leading customer projects. Each customer presents new challenges and requirements; because of this the ideal candidate is able to adapt quickly to each new situation and manage expectations, while utilizing prior experience to know when it's OK to diplomatically push back on new requirements and requests. Your experience in the field working closely with customers and building user capabilities rooted in software and/or artificial intelligence will be key to Indico's product development decisions and the organization's continued growth.
About You
You are a friendly and enthusiastic person whose dedication to quality, maintainable code is rock solid. This is shown by your ability to think creatively about problems while evaluating what solutions will benefit Indico's long-term business health through customer satisfaction and maintainability. You're comfortable leading technical conversions with customers and fielding technical inquiries from prospects. You're invested in having a life outside of work that is bolstered by a fulfilling job, not dominated by it. You look out for others and it shows in your willingness to sit down and hear out whatever needs or feedback other team members have in order to foster constructive conversation about personal and professional growth. Most importantly, you'll take ownership of your work and have fun with it!
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with qualified prospects and customers to design solutions for their business challenges using Indico's workflows and workspaces products.
  • Work with customers to capture project scope, requirements, resources, and success criteria.
  • Provide technical leadership for pilots and projects; taking ownership of custom development, Discriminative model and Generative prompt development, ground truth testing, and system integrations with customer IT.
  • Partner closely with other teams at Indico-Product, Engineering, R&D, Customer Success, and Sames-to productionalize customer use cases, productize use case customizations, and advocate for customer needs and feedback.
  • Support customer and partner enablement through product and technical expertise.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years experience in a customer-facing or business-stakeholder-facing software development or professional services role.
  • Comfortable engaging with and presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Highly proficient in Python; experience with asyncio, uv/poetry, dataclasses, and typing preferred.
  • Experience with Python linting, type checking, formatting, and unit/regression testing.
  • Experience with Git/Github, CI/CD, and working from the command-line.
  • Familiarity with drafting solution design documents, data schemas, and JSON schemas.
  • Familiarity with system integrations patterns and best practices-synchronous polling, asynchronous event queues, and webhooks.
  • Attentive to data/code security and privacy controls in HIPAA- and PII-sensitive contexts.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with customers, prospects, and partners.
  • Self-directed, independent, proactive, and collaborative team member.

Bonus:
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or other technical certification.
  • Familiarity with common AI/ML concepts-Accuracy, Precision, Recall, Training, and Prompting.
  • Experience with GenAI/LLM tools, including Claude, Gemini, or GPT.
  • Experience with AWS Lambda, Kubernetes, or deploying Celery services.
  • Experience with GraphQL or REST APIs.
  • Experience with ETL processes, data normalization/transformation, and process automation.
  • Familiarity with Docker/Podman and containerization.
  • Familiarity with the Insurance industry-including underwriting and claims.
