Remote Solar Permit Design information

What are some common challenges faced when working remotely as a solar permit designer, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Solar Permit Designers often encounter challenges such as coordinating efficiently with local permitting authorities, ensuring accurate site measurements without visiting the property, and maintaining clear communication with clients and installation teams. These can be addressed by leveraging advanced digital tools for site assessment, scheduling regular virtual meetings with stakeholders, and staying updated on regional permitting requirements. Proactive communication and thorough documentation are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful project delivery.

What is a remote solar permit designer?

A Remote Solar Permit Designer is a professional who creates detailed plans and documentation required for obtaining permits to install solar energy systems, all while working remotely. They use specialized software to design solar panel layouts, electrical diagrams, and site plans based on information provided by clients, installers, or site surveys. Their work ensures that the solar installation complies with local codes and utility requirements, and they typically coordinate with engineers, project managers, and permitting authorities. This role is crucial for streamlining the solar installation process and making sure projects proceed smoothly and legally.

CMDB and Attack Surface Management Support - ServiceNow Developer
The Opportunity:
In this role, you'll design and develop ServiceNow solutions that accelerate Booz Allen's CMDB practice and the Attack Surface Management initiatives that depend on it. With millions of CIs in scope, you'll build configured capability: Workspace views, Platform Analytics dashboards and indicators, Service Catalog items for CMDB requests, CMDB Health and Relationship Health rule configurations, ownership routing, and data quality automation. You'll partner with the ServiceNow Platform Team, ITSM SMEs, and data source owners to convert CMDB-related initiative needs into working ServiceNow solutions, and you'll contribute development effort to SRM and ITSM enhancements as CMDB priorities allow.
You'll be a key technical contributor on a team focused on bringing stakeholders together around CMDB data they can rely on and trust. You'll partner with ServiceNow Platform administrators to validate Discovery data ingestion and flag pattern or ingestion issues for platform-team refinement, and work with application and infrastructure SMEs to reconcile discovered CI data across sources. You'll develop the dashboards, reporting, and Service Catalog capabilities that the Attack Surface Management Working Group and similar CMDB-dependent initiatives need to inform security and operational prioritization. You'll work in coordination with the ServiceNow Platform Team, augmenting their delivery pipeline and converting initiative demand into ServiceNow-ready work. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.
What You'll Work On:
Development:
  • Design, configure, and develop ServiceNow CMDB solutions including Workspace views, Platform Analytics dashboards and indicators, Service Catalog items, CMDB Health and Relationship Health rule configurations, ownership routing, and data quality automation, in coordination with the ServiceNow Platform Team.
  • Build Platform Analytics indicators, KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards that surface CI ownership, completeness, environment classification, health trends, and Attack Surface Management metrics for technical and executive audiences.
  • Develop and maintain the CMDB ServiceNow Workspace and Service Catalog items for CMDB-related requests, including new CI registration, ownership change, retirement, and data correction, including form design and the workflows that route them.
  • Contribute development effort to SRM and ITSM enhancements as CMDB workload permits, in coordination with the ServiceNow Platform Team.

Analysis and Integration:
  • Monitor CMDB health and CI relationship health using ServiceNow KPIs, evaluate CI class and sub-class data quality, and perform trending analysis to identify where data quality gaps exist.
  • Partner with ServiceNow Platform administrators to validate Discovery data ingestion and flag pattern or ingestion issues for resolution and collaborate with application and infrastructure SMEs and data source owners to reconcile discovered CI data across sources and close data quality gaps at the source.

Translation and Backlog Support:
  • Translate CMDB-related initiative and governance needs, such as Attack Surface Management, Trusted Enterprise Transformation, and CMDB Health and Workspace governance into ServiceNow-ready business outcomes, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and UAT scenarios.
  • Support the CMDB enhancement backlog: intake, structure, prioritization support, dependency tracking, and readiness for ServiceNow Platform Team delivery.
  • Support implementation readiness for CMDB-related platform enhancements by validating data mappings, field requirements, reporting needs, and stakeholder acceptance through UAT.

Knowledge Transfer:
  • Develop knowledge articles that help stakeholders self-serve and collaborate with other ITSM SMEs to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the CMDB practice.

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 3+ years of experience developing and implementing ServiceNow solutions, including configuration of forms, workflows, business rules, script includes, UI policies, and ACLs, including CMDB or CMDB-adjacent functions, such as ITSM, ITOM, or SecOps integration with CMDB
  • 3+ years of experience with ServiceNow CMDB operations, CI relationship health, and data quality, including accuracy, completeness, and consistency, with direct responsibility for CMDB data maintenance, quality checks, and remediation
  • 2+ years of experience with ServiceNow Discovery in an analyst capacity, including reviewing discovered CI data, identifying pattern or ingestion issues, and reconciling data from multiple sources
  • 2+ years of experience building Performance Analytics or Platform Analytics indicators, KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards
  • 2+ years of experience developing ServiceNow Service Catalog items and workflows
  • Experience translating operational, security, or governance requirements into ServiceNow-ready user stories, acceptance criteria, dashboards, or UAT plans, and progressing them through Agile delivery, including backlog refinement and sprint planning in Jira or ServiceNow SPM
  • Experience with REST and JSON APIs, including with GraphQL
  • Experience with ITIL Configuration Management, CSDM framework, and CI lifecycle management principles
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or Information Technology
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) Certification and Certified Implementation Specialist - Data Foundations (CIS-DF) CMDB and CSDM Certification

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience developing Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules, including identifier entries, reconciliation rules, and data source precedence for duplicate prevention
  • Experience integrating third-party data into the CMDB using Service Graph Connectors or Integration Hub
  • Experience with CI Class Manager for CI class, attribute, and relationship model configuration
  • Experience with ServiceNow Flow Designer, GlideAjax, and scripted REST APIs in production
  • Experience applying the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) methodology in production environments
  • Experience with vulnerability data sources integration through ServiceNow Vulnerability Response and vulnerability-to-CI reconciliation in the CMDB
  • Possession of strong written communication skills
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) Certification
