Remote Software Engineering Faculty information

What is a remote software engineering faculty?

Remote Software Engineering Faculty are educators who teach software engineering courses online, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They are responsible for developing curriculum, delivering lectures, guiding students through assignments, and assessing learning outcomes, all via digital platforms. These faculty members may work for universities, colleges, or online education providers, and often have both academic credentials and professional experience in software engineering. The role allows for greater flexibility and accessibility for both students and instructors, catering to a global student base.

How does a remote software engineering faculty member typically collaborate with students and other faculty while working online?

Remote Software Engineering Faculty often engage with students through virtual lectures, online office hours, and discussion forums. Collaboration with both students and colleagues is facilitated by platforms like Zoom, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, ensuring regular communication despite physical distance. Faculty members may also participate in virtual curriculum meetings and peer reviews, fostering a supportive and interactive academic environment. This structure allows for flexibility, but it requires strong digital communication skills and proactive engagement to maintain effective collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software engineering faculty, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Software Engineering Faculty, you need deep expertise in computer science, programming languages, and curriculum development, typically supported by an advanced degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and collaborative coding platforms is essential. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and mentorship abilities enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. These skills ensure effective online instruction, foster student success, and maintain high academic standards in a virtual environment.

  • These projects will help you explore how AI can be leveraged to improve software reasoning, coding accuracy, and development efficiency.
What does day-to-day look like:
  • Design and solve real-world software engineering and algorithmic problems to test AI reasoning.
  • Write clear, step-by-step coding solutions across data structures, APIs, debugging, and optimization techniques.
  • Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to software design principles.
  • Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of code generation, problem-solving, and real-world development workflows.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience as a Software Developer, Engineer, or Programmer.
  • Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in one or more languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or Go.
  • Familiarity with Git, REST APIs, and agile development methodologies preferred.
  • Excellent English communication and ability to document and explain code logic clearly.
Perks of freelancing with Turing:
  • Strong compensation (exact amount varies by project).
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Engagement type: Contractor assignment/freelancer, potentially full-time.
  • Duration of projects: approximately 1 month, with the possibility for extension.
What Turing is NOT seeking from your expertise:
