What does a remote software developer do?

Remote software developers design and create computer software programs and systems for their employer or client. Unlike in-house software developers, remote software developers work from home or another location outside of the office. As a remote software developer, you discuss the kind of program you need to create, making sure to clarify with your department or with your client what they need in their application. You may develop an entirely new program or improve an existing one. Remote developers are responsible for a program’s overall framework, and they design precise workflow charts that explain to programmers what code is needed for different aspects of the program. Remote software developers also design tests and protocols for the QA department to follow when they are testing the application.

Remote software developers typically use a variety of collaboration tools, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, to communicate with colleagues and participate in daily stand-ups or sprint planning meetings. Regular check-ins, clear documentation, and agile workflows help ensure everyone stays aligned and productive despite working from different locations. Proactive communication and time management are crucial for overcoming the challenges of remote work and successfully contributing to team goals.

What is a remote software developer?

A Remote Software Developer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains software applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or another remote setting. These developers collaborate with team members using online communication and project management tools. Remote work allows for greater flexibility and access to global job opportunities, but it also requires strong self-motivation and communication skills. POSITION OVERVIEW

DC International is seeking a Backend / Operations Developer who thrives in complex, real-world systems and enjoys learning how things work under the hood. This role is not for a single-language or single-platform specialist. Instead, we are looking for a developer with experience across multiple systems and technologies who can confidently step into an existing environment, read and understand unfamiliar code, and make safe, effective improvements.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and is eager to contribute proven development experience while continuing to grow within a collaborative team.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Navigate the codebase and documentation well enough to troubleshoot and make changes with minimal guidance

  • Deliver small-to-medium enhancements that are stable and well-tested in production

  • Improve existing APIs, services, and SQL with a focus on reliability and maintainability

  • Communicate progress clearly and raise risks early

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in Git-based workflows, pull requests and code reviews

  • Use development tools such as Visual Studio and VS Code effectively

  • Work with CI/CD pipelines to deploy and monitor changes

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3+ years of backend, systems, or operational software development experience (production experience valued more than start-up titles)

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Stack, especially C#, .NET/.NET Core

  • Writes clean, maintainable SQL and database interactions

  • API development and integration experience

  • Can join existing systems and confidently enhance them

  • Adaptable and self-directed in learning new tools and contexts

  • Hands-on problem solvers and team contributors are valued over niche "100% perfect experience fits"

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Exposure to Microsoft Business Central ERP, Dynamics 365 CRM, and warehouse systems

  • Familiarity with Power BI, Data Warehouse, Microsoft Fabric

  • Production support or operational ownership experience
