Job description

Position Summary

The Finisher runs various machines in the finishing and bindery department to a level that meets or exceeds department expectations for quality, speed, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Finishing

  • Operating all equipment in the area of responsibility, including but not limited to: cutters, die cutters, laminators, saddle stitcher, folders, gluer, padding, shrink wrapper, drill press, coil bind punch, sewing machine, and grommet machine.
  • Completing multiple bindery and finishing processes to acceptable standards of quality and speed.
  • Reading job tickets thoroughly and interpreting job task requirements before starting.
  • Entering data collection properly.
  • Inspecting each piece for Quality Control.
  • Performing and completing all tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean working area at all times.
  • Storing all materials in a manner that promotes cleanliness and organization.
  • Using supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  • Adhering to all productivity, SOP, safety, 6S, and PPE requirements.
  • Performing and completing all other work duties as assigned, including assisting in other departments as needed.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Finishing Quality Rate: Achieve a defect-free output rate of 97% or higher across all finishing and bindery processes, as verified by QC inspection.
  • On-Time Job Completion: Complete assigned finishing tasks within the timeframes specified on the job ticket, targeting an on-time rate of 95% or higher.
  • Data Entry Accuracy: Maintain 99% accuracy in production data collection entries to ensure reliable job costing and reporting.
  • Material & Supply Efficiency: Keep finishing material waste and supply usage within the per-job tolerances established by the Operations Manager.
  • Safety Compliance: Zero recordable safety incidents per quarter, with full adherence to PPE requirements, SOP guidelines, and 6S area standards at all times.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats; ability to present to small and medium-sized groups.
  • Basic math skills, including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Basic computer knowledge and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer functions for equipment setup and job costing.
  • Ability to operate finishing and bindery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • One to two years of finishing, bindery, or related production experience required.

Preferred

  • Point-of-purchase printing experience preferred.
