Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer, you need a solid background in signal processing, mathematics, and experience with sensor technologies, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, sensor simulation tools, and frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and integrating complex data sources. These skills and qualifications are essential for developing reliable sensor fusion algorithms that enable accurate perception in autonomous or remote systems.

What are some typical challenges faced by Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers when integrating data from multiple sensors?

Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers often encounter challenges such as handling data discrepancies due to varying sensor resolutions, synchronization issues caused by different sensor update rates, and managing sensor noise or data loss. Ensuring that the fused data is both reliable and processed in real-time for downstream applications can be complex, especially in distributed or remote environments. Effective collaboration with hardware engineers, software developers, and data scientists is essential to address these challenges and optimize system performance.

What does a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer do?

A Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer is responsible for integrating and analyzing data from multiple sensors, such as cameras, radars, and lidars, to create a comprehensive and accurate understanding of an environment. This role is essential in fields like autonomous vehicles, robotics, and IoT systems, where precise situational awareness is critical. As a remote position, the engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams using digital tools to design algorithms, test sensor data integration, and improve system performance from a remote location.

What is the difference between Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer vs Remote Data Scientist?

AspectRemote Sensor Fusion EngineerRemote Data Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; experience with sensor systems and fusion algorithmsBachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields; proficiency in programming and statistical analysis
Work EnvironmentDevelops algorithms for sensor data integration, often in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or aerospaceAnalyzes large datasets to extract insights, often in tech, finance, or healthcare sectors
Industry UsageUsed in industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, and roboticsCommon in tech companies, research institutions, and consulting firms

While both roles involve data analysis and programming, Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers focus on integrating sensor data for real-time applications in robotics and autonomous systems. Remote Data Scientists analyze large datasets for insights and decision-making. The roles share technical skills but differ in application and industry focus.

Job description

Description
Exodigo is the leading underground mapping solution for non-intrusive discovery. Our platforms combine multi-sensor fusion, 3D imaging, and AI technologies to create complete, accurate underground maps that enable confident decision-making for customers across the built world. We transform the project lifecycle for our customers, who include key community stakeholders in the utilities, transportation and government sectors.
We are experiencing sky-rocketing growth and closed a historically large $96M Series B round in July of 2025.
Job description
Exodigo is seeking a Senior Bentley BIM Engineer to own the delivery of complex, data-rich infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will operate as a true specialist in the Bentley ecosystem, leading 3D model development from initial setup, coordination, QA/QC and final client delivery while mentoring teams and advancing our BIM standards and workflows.
If you live and breathe Bentely OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and OpenBuildings Designer (OBD) and want to shape digital delivery at a forward-thinking company, this is for you.
What You'll Do
Strong understanding of construction documents, shop drawings, and technical communication.
Team-oriented, collaborative, and adaptable, with the ability to work with engineers and project management teams.
  • Lead 3D Delivery: Create, federate, and deliver multidisciplinary models (roads, rail, utilities) using OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBuildings Designer (OBD), and MicroStation, Civil3D, and related tools.
  • Integrate Complex Data: Seamlessly merge reality-captured data (LiDAR, drone surveys, ContextCapture), surveyed topography, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) datasets into intelligent, clash-free models.
  • Drive Geospatial Accuracy: Manage mapping coordinate systems, building surface layers, and utility quality levels (QL D-A) to ensure high-fidelity, construction-ready deliverables.
  • Ensure Quality & Compliance: Act as the technical authority for advanced QA/QC, clash detection, and ISO 19650 compliance, metadata integration, ensuring alignment with client BIM Execution Plans and formats.
  • Mentor & Innovate: Guide global junior modelers, continuously improve BIM workflows, and drive digital twin readiness within the Bentley ecosystem.

Requirements
  • Experience: 10+ years in infrastructure BIM modeling, with 6+ years leading large-scale civil/rail/utility projects.
  • Bentley Mastery: Expert-level, real-world proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, OpenBuildings Designer, MicroStation Connect Edition, and iTwin Platform.
  • ProjectWise Integration: Proven ability to produce advanced, federated 3D models seamlessly integrated with ProjectWise for efficient data management.
  • Technical Depth: Deep understanding of surveying, SUE workflows, mapping standards, and complex construction documents/shop drawings.
  • Metadata & Client Integration: Proven ability to liaise with clients to define asset exchange requirements, integrate precise metadata, and adapt models to client-specific templates, ensuring seamless coordination with agency BIM Managers.
  • Strong experience working within client-defined coordinate systems, grids, workspaces, worksets, and seed file standards, ensuring full alignment with project environments and seamless model integration.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)
  • Workflow Obsessed (Efficiency & Automation): You live to optimize. From mastering basic Excel data and Bluebeam Revu markup workflows to writing custom Python or Bentley SDK scripts, you're always finding faster, smarter ways to build Advanced Bentley Ecosystem.
  • Secondary Coordination: Familiarity with Autodesk tools (Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks) and ArcGIS Pro for cross-platform integration.
  • Advanced Bentley Tech: Experience with OpenrRails, OpenUtilities Designer, OpenUtilities Substation, OpenGround, or Generative Design.
  • Data & Automation: Proficiency in handling metadata, reality capture technologies (photogrammetry), or scripting (Python, Bentley SDK).

Salary: $130,000 - $160,000
Location: Remote with preference for candidate to sit in the Northeast
