The Senior Underwriter will play an active role in achieving OptumRx's sales and renewal financial targets with specific responsibility for the Employer Underwriting Team.

This position is full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm local time zone.

We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Active role in New Business and Renewals RFPs through an in-depth understanding of OptumRx and all competitors, industry trends, market dynamics and internal key performance indicators
  • Working closely with internal teams, including sales, finance, proposal, legal and operations, to structure competitive deals
  • Pricing support in acquiring new clients and retaining existing clients
  • Communicate underwriting decisions effectively to key stakeholders
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions to achieve favorable underwriting outcomes
  • Review and approve underwriting requests, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 2 years of financial pharmacy benefit management experience OR other underwriting experience
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis, with intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools
  • Client-facing experience, problem-solving and decision-making skills including negotiating and consulting with clients
  • Business and financial acumen, including financial analysis experience
  • Communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams
  • Managing your time and prioritizing tasks to meet required deadlines
  • Ability to work any of our full time, shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm local time zone

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
