The Senior Piping Designer supports capital projects across Evonik's North American manufacturing sites by leading piping and plant layout design activities from early planning through construction.
This role develops practical, safe, and cost-effective designs, prepares detailed project and construction packages, and works closely with engineers, project teams, equipment suppliers, and outside engineering firms. The person in this position will work independently, lead the piping discipline on assigned projects, and provide oversight to help confirm designs meet project needs, industry standards, and Evonik requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop piping project estimates to establish costs and schedules. Develop process plant layouts and propose preliminary designs to support the most economical and practical solution.
  • Perform detailed piping and mechanical design in accordance with industry standards to produce design and construction packages.
  • Lead model and design reviews to receive client input and approval.
  • Develop and revise piping and instrumentation diagrams alongside process engineers. Develop bid and construction packages with detailed scopes of work for project execution.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee piping design and construction activities performed by third-party resources.
  • Independently develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to unique engineering problems.
  • Apply industry best practices to support the continued development of Evonik's quality program within the Layout and Piping department.
  • Provide input from a piping design perspective on equipment approval drawings to confirm they meet project needs.
  • Review piping materials, including valves and specialty items, to confirm alignment with Evonik technical standards.
  • Provide oversight and input from a Layout and Piping perspective on large capital projects while serving in an owner's engineer capacity.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate degree or completion of a technical drafting or design apprenticeship required . Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in layout and piping design within the chemical and/or petrochemical process industry. Approximately 10 years of relevant experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary project team and serving as the Layout and Piping discipline lead.
  • Experience with engineering applications and piping or mechanical design software, such as AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with CAESAR II, AVEVA E3D administration, AVEVA E3D catalogs and specifications, LFM Point Cloud Manager, laser scanning, or surveying practices is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and engineering best practices, with the ability to apply them to detailed piping and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to serve as the piping or mechanical discipline lead on large capital projects.
