Full-time

Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 2 days ago

Job description

Power smarter insurance systems with seamless integration.
Hastings Insurance is seeking a Senior Integration Developer to support, modernize, and streamline the core integrations powering our Property & Casualty systems. This role blends technical design, hands-on C# development, and cross-functional collaboration to build and maintain reliable integrations across our enterprise footprint, including a growing catalog of modern microservices.
This role is ideal for an intellectually curious backend developer who enjoys understanding complex systems under the hood, refining established service patterns, and helping shape our move toward containerized deployments.
Location & Schedule
This full-time, salaried position will generally work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role may be performed onsite at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters or in a hybrid arrangement. We will also consider remote candidates who reside in one of our operating states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin.
What You'll Do
  • Design & Build | Develop and deploy maintainable microservices, APIs, and integration components that streamline how data and workflows move across core P&C platforms.
  • Modernize Architecture | Partner with enterprise architecture to expand our catalog of decoupled services and advance our transition toward containerized deployments.
  • Shape Engineering Culture | Help establish AI-assisted development best practices (e.g., leveraging AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, and code review workflows) to boost team productivity.
  • Elevate the Team | Provide technical mentorship, participate in code reviews, and help maintain high standards for code quality and documentation.

What We're Looking For
  • Technical Depth | 5+ years of hands-on backend software development focused on enterprise systems integration, API design, and clean separation of concerns.
  • Modern .NET & C# | Solid production experience with C# and modern .NET frameworks (with a focus on keeping pace with current Microsoft releases like .NET 8/10).
  • Architecture & Messaging | Strong understanding of service boundaries, database design, asynchronous messaging patterns, and building for long-term maintainability.
  • Intellectual Curiosity & Problem-Solving | A natural drive to dig into complex systems, understand how things work at a fundamental level, and continuously evaluate new tools, patterns, and technologies to improve system architecture and team efficiency.
  • Integration Range | Comfort working across integration technologies spanning different framework generations, and moving fluently between them as system requirements dictate.
  • Containerization Readiness | Familiarity with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and a desire to help architect containerized deployment pipelines that improve team workflow.
  • Modern SDLC & AI Tools | Pragmatic view of software engineering best practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and incorporating AI-driven developer tools into daily workflows.
  • Domain Experience (Nice to Have) | Background in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance or complex financial systems is a plus, but strong backend fundamentals come first.
